Well its that time of the year again and I have to fork out for the insurance again - I've done all the comparison websites and Admiral is still coming out the cheapest at £805 for 12months. When I bought my roadster it had a fully fitted Tracker. So I thought, why not see how much it is to activate the tracker and see if it lowers my insurance :)

It costs £165 for 12 months of the Tracker Service and guess what..............

Admiral would ONLY knock off £13 on my policy for having a Tracker - somethings in life just don't make any sense to me :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I found this when I had a tracker on my first BMW.

With insurance companies it will not generally affect the price, but will determine if they will insure you or not.

As above - plus, do you really want your car back if its stolen and be left with a CAT D car? No thanks...

Ha you think thats bad I just bought insurance for my z4, 2350 quid. Said what about with a tracker fitted- 2850 quid WTF?? "yeh dont worry about it i wont bother"

Bloody hell, I swear insurance firms make up the price as they go along.... Does it make a difference in price if I state the garage where it is kept during the day and night is locked or unlocked?

On direct line your not insured if it get stolen if no tracker is fitted. Just on the M/// i think!

I pay £135 yearly maintenance for the tracker i have but recieved £150 discount from SwiftCover for having one - When i come to renew and the tracker isnt saving my money then i will cancel the maintenance.

The biggest discount was from recently changing my cover from parking on the road to parking in my unlocked garage, which brought down my cover by £170

There was one guy on here who said it put his insurance up if he parked in a garage, sounded strange but he was adamant.

Ouch! I pay 530 ish at the moment. But was getting quotes of 1500 for an M3 vert which scared me off TBH :D

Until recently, my ///M was parked on the street in London. I was offered a garage to rent and checked what effect this would have on my premium. I was surprised when Elephant told me it would not go down. I decided to go ahead with the garage anyway. The arrangements took a few weeks, and by the time I called them back to change my policy, they told me that it would actually increase my premium!! Fortunately, that I had previously contacted them saved me from having to pay the increased premium until I renew. It's utterly ridiculous that a secure, locked garage with a high-security padlock should be a greater risk than parking on a narrow road.

Was the garage in the same postcode? I lived in c London for some years once moving/relocating no more than 10 mins walk to a new flat - this increased my premium.

Well after a day of ringing insurance companies and doing all the price comparison sites, Adirmal is still the cheapest for me - The most expensive quote I got was from the AA at £5995.70 for 12 months.

Anyone would think I wanted to insurance a Bugatti for that price!!! Can anyone suggest some insurance companies I can try?

I've tried the following:

Adrian Flux
Chris Knott
Elephant
Admiral
AA
Shelias Wheels
AXA
Direct Line
Aviva
LV.com
Esure
Swiftcover
Morethan

My cheapest quote from normal insurers was £1,000 ish from Elephant (which is Admiral) - I'm 24, 3 years NCB, garaged, teacher, 9k a year.

I went to Greenlight insurers and got a quote in the low 900s, then went to Noel Dazely brokers and they gave me it for 895 including legal cover. Was relatively satisfied with that considering premiums have gone up generally this year after the crash-heavy winter.

Give those two a try - I'd be surprised if they don't beat it.

I got the cheapest quote one year from BMW insurance.

The little difference the Tracker makes to your premium reflects the proportion of risk the total loss of your car is relative to the third party risk, I suspect. That, and averaging out premiums across risk levels to be competitive.
