Adjusting wiper arm angle with shims

Hi fellow Zedder's

I've not been on in a while as I've not really been getting out and about in my Zed much. When I was last out despite having, decontaminated the windscreen treated it to Rain X and new wiper blades my windscreen wipers still squeak and judder!! GGggrrrrrrr It's doing my head in and making wet weather driving even less of a pleasure.

As the title suggests, I may have dreamt or I read this somewhere, but no matter how much searching I do I cannot find any reference to this which can confirm my mental meanderings. I've read, or at least think I've read that there are Shims which are usually fitted as standard to new BMW's wiper posts which adust the angle at which the wiper arm sits onto the splined shaft/post, in relation to the windscreen. By adding or removing you can adjust this position and eradicate in Judder/squeak.

Has anybody ever heard of this or done this? :?

I've not heard of that but i usually just twist and bend the arm to achieve the same end result!

What wiperblades are you using? I tried OEM bosch blades when I bought my car and they were terrible for screeching and squeaking; no amount of arm adjustment worked so ended up getting Aerotwin flat blades and they work perfectly and silently... but I know the non-OEM thing upsets some people :poke:

I'm using Michelin from Costco- Nice and cheap as I keep experimenting with different brands, I've tried Bosch too. Same result everytime. :headbang:

Never known these to have shims. Squeaking has been an issue though and a bit of lubrication on the wiper arm joint normally sorts.

I can’t see how a shim would help as the angle varies over the sweep.

I'm sure I read this in the TIS, the shims are made out of rubber so effectively they are like dampers as well as changing the angle at which the blade contacts the screen, nothing to do with the sweep of the arc of movement. :D
