hi all quite a basic question!
my z4 is quite basic, if i wanted to add some genuine bmw part add ons like multi functional steering wheel,
foot well speakers, heated wing mirrors etc etc
i see on the parts drawings you can buy the add ons
would the wiring be already there??
or do they use a different harness!
i do like the majority of my car and at some point like to upgrade some bits
or is it a no go!
cheers
Si

Hi Si
The early Z4 was pre wired to accept most add ons. I have added cruise control and MFSW to my 2003 car. Both were plug and play apart from a wire on the MFSW.

What year?

Which Z4 do you have?

Suspension can be lowered.
Cruise Control can be fitted.
Wheel Spacers can be fitted.
18" wheels can be fitted.
Sound Generator Mod?
Stubby replaces the whippy.
Electric seats?
Wind deflector Retrofit

Have a read of the Z4 Forum Official FAQ.

Tell me more about this wire, I quite fancy doing the MFSW? :D

its a 2006 soft top 2.0

I think your cars a 55 plate, which makes it a pre facelift car. That could make a difference when it comes to looking at wiring specs etc

Seats, steering wheel and gear knob would be my first port of call. The bits you touch. M wheel and a zhp knob transforms the feel of the car. Heated, electric M sport seats. If the car isn’t already equipped. On my old 2.0 (facelift) I fitted a sprint booster which sharpened up the throttle response. Made a big difference. Gaptech module for the roof is another nice extra that makes a bigger difference than you’d think.

hi please explain ?? sprint booster??
gaptech roof module
mines manual unlock and pull back
cheers

Sprint boost is a little module you fit to the accelerator pedal. Works like the sports button. You get a little button which makes the throttle response a lot sharper. Won’t make the car faster or more powerful but gets rid of the lag you get from pressing the pedal and the car actually responding. I noticed a massive difference when I had mine.

Gaptech is a module you wire into the roof. Allows remote open/close and also a one touch feature to open or close when in the car. Handy for when pulling away from lights etc when it starts raining.

Do you not have heated mirrors? They are on all the time, no button for them, just put your hand on the mirror to feel if it’s getting warm.

Footwell speakers are already there, it’s the door ones that will be missing.

But you didn't fit it to your 3.0?

3.0 zed has a sport button, no need for an after market add on
Rob

You could also fit a Z4M front and Z4M bonnet. This will add about 80 bhp instantly. More if you remove all the badges and replace them with //M badges from the eBay.

If you really want to increase the power throw on a quad exhaust and rear skirt for it. Extra 120 bhp if not more!

None of the bhp figures are true.

This.

However unlike the sport button, the sprint boost remembers the previous setting and stays on next time you start the car. Wish this was a feature of the standard sport button. First thing I do every time I drive the zed is hit the sport button.

so i removed the bottom cover under the steering wheel on the e85 2006 z
and no wiring for the cruise control!!!!
does this mean im screwed for add ons like adding a mfsw or can i get the wiring??
the funny thing is when i search on the bmw parts list with my model year etc
it will allow me to see all the add ons but no additional wiring!!

Well form member srhutch can make up the section of wiring you need for cruise control - he might be able to do the MFSW as well.

I think it's plug and play, but your best bet would be to PM "srhutch" and he'll be able to give you full details.
