Adding door speakers to the standard 6 speaker setup

Having had my door card off yesterday, it looks like it would be easy to add speakers in to the door cards and take the signal from between the footwell speakers and door tweeter. However I was wondering if anybody has done this and can let me know if it's worthwhile or not. The business CD player must obviously only have a limited output, so I assume adding speakers to the doors will just reduce the output of the footwell speakers.

Anybody done this upgrade and noticed an improvement?

i did mine in the summer and got the speakers from ebay for about 10 pounds for a pair.

just take a splice into the tweater cable and your sorted.

i even picked up the oem speaker plug from the dealers with the wires already attached

Interesting that you don't have the loom already - when I had my door card off there was a spare speaker connection in there already, even though I have no speakers there. Could be hidden behind the insulation ?

Isn't yours a facelift though? Probably a slightly different loom to the pre-facelift cars as I have no pre-wired connection on my car (build date 03/2005)

I have a load of door cards from my old E91 that I am about to junk....they all have the speaker grills and mounts, have all the speakers on ebay for a few pounds....

Going to junk them at the weekend so if you want the grilles and or mounts, let me know.

I dare say the loom for the sardine cans is different from the roadster loom as well so that may explain things

Thanks guys, I couldn't see any looms but it looks very easy to tap in to the tweeter.

@foxy-stoat - can you link me to the speakers you are selling?

They are like a 5er each plus delivery on ebay but wouldn't want to charge you that as its to cover fees etc....I would rather send you what ever you wanted by the slowest unsigned for snail possible and once you received them, then you could paypal as a gift to save on fees.

just checking are the speakers you have listed 4" ? (ie will fit in the door of the z4)

These are the standard Z4 speakers....so slightly different but don't see it being a big issue to fit.....

Edd, yours are packed and ready to go, but let me know if you still want them as they are fixed by 3 tabs rather than 4, so won't be a straight fit......assumed they were the same....

Honestly speaking, the oem ones are poo.

Better to spend your hard earned money on better qualify aftermarket drivers

I'll still take them please mate, my door panel has the 3 point fixing so should hopefully fit. Happy to give it a go and don't want to spend a fortune on after market ones.
