Hi guys , I was out on M40 test drive at the weekend, awesome car without doubt, the car in question had shadow line,tech and comfort packs but not adaptive suspension, I’ve never had a car with this before and to be honest I thought it drove fine without it, could others with with this feature let me know there thoughts, is it essential?

Hey John, looking at the whole package then no. Enjoyed my time with the Caysters but not with my OPC. The M40i is a really an excellent package and doesn't cost the earth to run.john-e89 said:Boyo said:

I’d really like another M40i too, tbh keeping my powder dry until it’s confirmed if they're doing a manual, be interesting to compare especially if they tweak suspension and steering.

On dealer sites I have also seen M40i's LCI models with no Adaptive setting button next to the ECO, Comfort buttons etc. And I've also seen some M40i LCI's WITH the Adaptive button next to the ECO, Comfort buttons etc. Prior to 2023, an "Adaptive" button was always physically situated as standard on the transmission console. I browsed on the internet to understand this anomaly but couldn't find a definitive answer. Some folks advised it was down to a shortage of chips at the time, others that the adaptive functionality is now within the display console settings, and others bemoaning this apparent reduction in suspension functionality...
It would be great if a Z4 G29 Expert could enlighten us on what's changed, because something has. Thanks.

Afaik, the adaptive button is a driving mode/style (it ‘learns” how you drive and adapts settings on the car to suit your driving style) and is nothing to do with adaptive suspension.

i thought adaptive was related to the sat nav - so "adapts" on certain roads you're driving on rather than learning your style. I never use it though so anyone with an LCIG29 isn't missing much.
Thanks Andy for the clarification, appreciated! For a Newbie, it's a bit confusing I have to admit. So, if I understand you correctly, this "adaptive" button remains an option on all models and was never standard on a M40i, also not pre-LCI?Argyll Andy said:

As a neutral, it looks like a useful option to have - for the car to memorize what your preferred driving style is.
