Adaptive M Sport Suspension

Had an MSport sdrive 20i on test over the weekend and tbh found the ride a little hard given the shocking state of the Yorkshire roads!

How much difference does Adaptive M Sport suspension make?

Would that in "comfort" mode be more bearable with the option for a firm sporty ride when required?

This might help... and is the primary reason I wanted a car with it;

I'm not sure where non-adaptive M Sport suspension sits in the graph, as I didn't try E89 with adaptive suspension.

I can confirm that on standard the suspension is set up for comfort and is considerably easier on the fillings than the older model. On sport it firms up a couple of notches but more evident is the sharper steering and throttle. On sport +. It's as hard as the old model and even a little twitchy in a good way

But I did try a stanard model, which its suspension was softer than my M Sport.

Looking at RealOEM there's no difference in the suspension parts between an SE and M Sport model in terms of springs and struts, which is odd as I'm sure I've seen in the BMW blurb that M Sports get lowered by 10mm, though that's the only mention BMW make of the difference, implying the strut etc remains the same. RealOEM does show M Sport differences in trim etc so they're clearly aware of the two models, though they only show suspension differences between the standard suspension and the adaptive.

Having also just driven a 20i M Sport, I'd say it was stiffer but not uncomfortable, than my Normal (adaptive) mode. So if its a choice of comfort and choice, go with adaptive, but if you don't go with adaptive I don't think you'd know/miss it.

What's dynamic Drive control?

That also offers Comfort, sport and sport plus.

That would be better engine response and weightier steering, quite noticable too, sport + reduces the traction control as well

Springs are often in a separate spring table.

The front stabilizer (anti-roll) bar is different. On a 20i, M-Sport and Adaptive M suspension both use 31356793190, but standard suspension uses 31356793171.

The shocks are different too, you must have been looking at a different diagram. Try looking on this one --> http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=LL32&mospid=53585&btnr=31_0850&hg=31&fg=10

01 LEFT FRONT SPRING STRUT 1 31316784917 $276.07
01 FRONT RIGHT SPRING STRUT 1 31316784918 $276.07
For vehicles with M Sports suspension S704A=Yes
01 LEFT FRONT SPRING STRUT 1 03/2010 31316796439
01 FRONT RIGHT SPRING STRUT 1 03/2010 31316796440

How did M-Sport suspension compare to your adaptive suspension on Sport setting?

We aren't getting the adaptive suspension, but I'm still not decided on M-Sport Suspension delete.

I'd say the 20i M Sport was a smudge harder than my Normal mode, but a smudge softer than my Sport mode.. You don't even want to know what Sport + feels like... lets just say the road has to be very good!

Another view (this is similar to what I posted in another topic):

My personal preference: go for the M-Sport (passive) or the full Adaptive Suspension option. This will give better handling. Then keep the wheel size a bit smaller (I have 17") for comfort. Only if you really prefer flat-out cornering stability over comfort would larger wheels be the better option. Just my opinion / preference.

I have Adaptive and find "Normal" too soft. "Sport" is my usual setting and (unexpectedly) also makes the car behave better over speed-bumps. Personally I don't find Sport+ too hard, it actually makes the car feel nicely planted and 'flat' through corners.

If the car doesn't have Adaptive then the Normal/Sport/Sport+ modes just adjust the steering and throttle. I don't really notice any difference in those.
