Is it possible to just disconnect the dampers to get a firmer ride?

There will be errors but will the go if you reconnect them?

My Z feels like a boat in the Normal setting and a lot better in Sport, but I dont want to use that all the time.
This until I get a B12 kit or something..

Disconnecting the dampers will flag an error code and disable sport mode plus other effects.

By default without power the ride will be on the softer dampoing setting.

I stand corrected..I assumed with power failure it would revert soft, but as you say, on checking it is in fact defaulting to hard

So, I disconnected the complete EDC module under the hood. Get an error during startup but SPORT mode does still work.
The ride is a bit on the harsh side but much better than no-damping-at-all on COMFORT with a working EDC. At least untill there will be some new dampers.

Why not just put the car in sport mode when you start the car? That’s what most of us do.

What wheels/tyres/pressures are you on? Changing any/all of these - most cheaply the last - can change the ride significantly, of course.

Yeah, I did that until now, but during warmup i rather have the lower shiftpoint of the automatic and I dont like the gaspedal reaction in sports mode.

At the moment I am on 17" winter RFTs. Cant remember the pressures but did what was on the door sticker.
Before this EDC experiment I was on 19" non-RFT but the suspension would be way too hard for that now.

Full story is that I bought this car 2 months ago with 70kmiles on it and knew the suspension needed a change. It feels it can be much much better!

Thanks, found that. Still have to see if I can connect with the BMW tools. Did that on an older E46 before.

xHP is a useful tool if you want to tweak the DCT OE settings

Is it? Its for me the first time on RFTs but the ride was smoother than on the 19" non RFTs. I did not expect that.

Ssshhh ... !!! Don't tell the Big Wheel Boys that. :wink:

(I was lucky. My E89 came on 18s, but I still had to chuck the RFTs away.)
