Adamw’s Z4M roadster

Hi all,

New owner of a lovely Z4M Roadster.

Picked it up yesterday and very pleased with the car, although I’ve not managed to experience properly yet for to the horrendous weather we’ve had over the last two days.

A bit on me…long time ‘petrol head’ with my fair share of interesting cars, but this is my second ///M car.

Recently sold my e92 m3 which was great but decided I needed to sell to take a little money from the car for other things, however I set my eyes on a Z4MR as a replacement as fancied the idea of a Roadster and always loved the S54.

Once I started looking, I realised these were reasonably limited in numbers and there weren’t too many around, therefore I might need to travel for the right car.

After a little searching I located what sounded like a great car, with a good history, same owner for the last 10.5 years and only 65k on the clock, with the all important Vanos service work done.

The only thing, the we it wasn’t local, with me based down south and the car being in Leeds (roughly 4.5hrs away). That said, the car sounded very promising & I’ve travelled further for cars in the past and will always travel for the right car.

After speaking with the owner on the phone and agreeing a provisional price, subject to a a satisfactory inspection being carried out, I decided to progress.

The independent German specialist carried out a full inspection reporting only a few very minor items (that you’d expect for a 20 yr old car) but also saying it was one of the nicest examples they’d seen, I decided to make the trip up by train to view and hopefully bring home.

The car didn’t disappoint when I turned up, in fact I’d describe as mint. Maybe nicer than expected.
The deal was done and I started the long drive back down south.

The weather was appalling on the journey home so didn’t really get to stretch the car’s legs as traffic heavy and roads very wet, but the car cruised home very nicely.
I’ll really look fwd to many more dryer days where I can get to know the car properly.

I wanted to start a tread to document ownership and progress with the car.

Apologies for the rather poor picture quality, I’ll get some better pics when the sun is shining..

So far, the precautionary rod bearings replacement (ACL / ARP) is booked in early Nov, & in future may consider a change in wheels (CSL style but 18” - maybe Apex) with a potential CSL style carbon airbox.

Other than that, just want to look after, maintain the condition & enjoy the car.

Thanks for reading, a few pics.

Welcome to Z4M ownership.

Even if you didn't find one locally but given how few were registered in the UK that's hardly surprising, and does make collection day a bit special even in grotty weather. I went from Berkshire to Rutland on a grey drizzly December day to get mine and will always remember the drive home. :D

Mine had 19" CSL Reps fitted, but everyone seems to fit those so I got a set of OE 224s!

When you get the bearing shells replaced make sure you get new engine mounts fitted. Mine were in a very sorry state at 78K miles when I had my bearing shells done.

And if you plan on a carbon airbox get saving now!

Thanks for the heads up re engine mounts whilst in there for rod bearings.

Both booked in with BMR (turners hill) next week 👍🏻👌🏻

Good to hear you got one, mine is still in the body shop so you couldn’t listen / see it yet. I have the Eventuri kit on it, so on a next meet you can listen to that.

BMR - hmm, as you know very close to me, but my experience was soooo bad with them that I have written them off for servicing the M.

Welcome. Lovely looking MR in one of the lesser seen colours. I still regret selling mine even though it was way back in 2016.

No problems, loving the car and very pleased with my choice, even though I did purchase without really experiencing one before.

Re BMR, I have used them before (for my previous e92 m3) and the work has always been ok, but the service not as good as some.
I’ve been using Munich Legends of late, but I couldn’t ignore that RB work was £300 less for the same job.

We found an M specialist in Redhill that we are going to try. Will let you know.

Re BMR - the quote and the price difference is what I had the issue with. Final price 300% of quoted price, so I feel their model is to quite low and charge more. As one example, they cooked the O2 sensor on removing a bolt and charged me full labour and parts for a replacement as if you just came in for the job.

Munich Power ?

No, a different place near Redhill. Need to find the name again, was looking at it based on reviews and did a drive by
