Hi all

Morning folks been quoted this for an actuator fault is this reasonable

Hi and welcome!
No way is that reasonable.
The actuator is the servo motor. It is signalled by the eccentric cam sensor which can get oil contamination and I would recommend changing at the same time while you have the top cover off.
So you are looking at the cost of a servo motor, sensor, seal that goes around the sensor, plus top cover gaskets.
Whole job takes maybe 1.5 hours.
I'll get some prices and report back shortly.

I have had issues with cheap gasket sets that don't fit, so I always go for a good make.
Rough prices from when I last did one:

Elring complete gasket set - £50
Eccentric shaft sensor - £35
Servo motor - £50

Prices do fluctuate a little but they aren't far off.

Whereabouts are you?
Anywhere near Norfolk and I can do the whole job for you easily in a morning for the costs shown above plus a bit for my time. :thumbsup:
 
Oh, and also reset all codes and give you an idea if that's fixed everything or not.
Unless the servo motor is properly adjusting the timing you are likely to get unburnt fuel getting through and upsetting the cat sensors.
 
If you want to do your own research the Part Numbers are:

Servo valve actuator - 11377548387
Eccentric cam sensor - 11377527016
Top cover gaskets - 11120032224
(If you look on eBay for the Elring top cover gasket you will find the sewt I mentioned, which also includes the seal around the eccentric cam sensor)

That's a shame.
How adept are you at fixing stuff?
It's really not a difficult job.
 
Not really confident in my abilities to be honest but I am now armed with much better info and prices so will check around locally I think.

Could be worth putting up a separate thread asking if there are any handy forum members nearer to you?

A bit more info for you: the eccentric cam sensor sits on the front of the cylinder head under the top cover. It's electrical plug pokes up through the cover and has a seal around it. A common issue is for the seal to fail, oil gets past and into the plug.
So the chances are that even if it isn't contaminated, removing the top cover to replace the servo actuator will mean the seal doesn't seal again properly.
For the extra cost and time taken I would recommend getting that sensor changed at the same time, along with a new seal around it.

Not the best of weather to be heading all that way up though.
 
Perth for me and only kidding, I'll get someone identified up here.

Shes sitting garaged up just now anyway as didn't want to run her with that looming 😏
