I'll be very surprised if they weren't both made very, very dead by those impacts though.

There was a guy in my city killed the same way, stood behind his broken down Ford Transit on a sliproad, a sliproad that isn't particularly fast moving as you have to stop at the top. A car driver just drove into him whilst he was getting something out the back. Since the accident the whole sliproad has been re-constructed as a bigger and wider road with a better view.
