Accessing CD Changer Wiring...

Afternoon all,

I'm planning to get the bluetooth module to connect to the CD Changer wiring behind the trunk wall.

I've read a few posts and indeed posted a few questions, on how people access it. Most people seem to simply lift the carpet in the boot and then have a rummage round. I've tried doing this, but the carpet seem well fixed in, and it seems it's tucked under the side panels too - and I'm loathed to dismantle the side panels. Am I missing something here??

Another member accessed it by taking out the storage bin behind the drivers seat. As I have this, is it a simple case of leveraging out said bin? is it held in place by clips (will this break easily?). Once removed, is it straightforward to see the wires down below?...

It's behind the centre console in the boot. It's easy to access in the boot by pulling the rear panel up from the bottom.

It’s not easy in a coupe (as I discovered a couple of weeks ago).
You need to remove the trim where the boot latch is then the trim panels that cover the real lights (from the inside). The side panels can now be pivoted upwards just enough for you to get access under the carpet. Be prepared to scrape all your knuckles in the process but all in the whole job should only take 30 minutes.

yes, that's what I thought; I was hoping there may be a quicker way!...Is this carpet stuck down with glue?
Does the boot panel divider then just pivot a little?

I only removed two clips and forced the carpet up just enough for me to get under it head first and locate the wires. Since I didn't have CDC, only CDC preparation, I couldn't find the bloody cables. I ended up finding it through the cabin by removing the passenger side storage cubby.

Have a look at my thread, I think I have some photos. Note that I dismantled a lot more than I should have as I wanted my GROM in a certain place.

I don't remember exactly what I posted. Do you have CDC installed? If so you can do through the boot by getting underneath the carpet like I did. If not, just pull the storage cubbies (literally) in the interior and see if you can find two connectors taped together to one side.

Basically on a coupe your stripping out some of the boot liners/carpets Pretty straight forward and well worth doing. Its a good piece of kit thats out of sight and works well

The blue music dongle was delivered yesterday, so gonna try it tomorrow. Seems access via the cubby hole may be the easier option first; failing that I'll go via the boot...

[ref]Vijay[/ref], hey man, through the boot is fiddly, but so much easier... the centre console takes much longer to get out, and there’s much more potential for visible trim damage which would irritate you I would definitely try from the rear first

I was planning on popping out the storage bin behind the driver seat and having a rummage round. That said I’m a little anxious about breaking a plastic clip or something....

Wow, access from the boot is hard enough ! My theory is that Spartenburg started with the CDC wiring and then built the rest of the car around it....

Found them and connected in, works fine
Though there is a slight hi pitched whine when nothing’s playing; anyone else notice that?....

I have a Connects2 iPod adapter connected to my cd changer port and yeah, I also have a high-pitched whine when no songs are playing

Drives me crazy to the point that I no longer use the iPod much

Seems one can reduce that whine!
You need to reduce the volume on the car radio, but up it on the iPod - if that makes sense...?

Took longer than I thought. I tried going in through the storage bin first, but no dice! So when in through the boot. That said, I did end up breaking one of the clips on a side panel! Really wound me up too, for some reason
