Hi Guys

In order to fault find my airbag light on the instrument cluster (drivers airbag 0093A8) i would like get access to check the plug connections of the airbag control module between the seats. Can someone tell me if i have to remove the entire centre console and the rear storage compartment or just the rear storage? Has anyone done a guide with pictures of this? i looked in the "How To" section and tried to search but no luck.

Thanks

Hi, if you remove the hand brake gator I think you should be able to see it, if no you can remove the little black cup behind it.

Btw if your if faulty and you need a new unit let me know, I have one :)

Can remove the coin holder apparently. I never managed to get mine out. So removed the rear section of the centre console.

yes, the rear storage compartment cover must be removed.

I just had mine off for a different reason. Be very gentle as the they become brittle over time.

Not if you’re just unplugging the connection. Will be able to do that with just removing the coin holder.

I stand corrected - I thought he was going to replace it

I had visions of the OP taking out the entire rear centre console just to unplug it a little connector  so wanted to make it clear that wasn’t necessary! :)

When you say "coin holder" do you mean the ashtray part? Or the part behind the handbrake the "oddments tray"?

I’m in major need of one if you have one. This little shite of a module rendered my car useless for a while. Really messed the entire kbus network in the process.

I do believe the require coding to the car though so not just a simple plug and play

Morning, can you confirm your car year and model?

My car is a 2006 2.5i, the BMW part number of my airbag control unit is 65779118749. I don't think I can get to the module plugs via the coin holder.

Hi sharpyboy. If you look at my original post that is what I'm calling the coin holder. The only reason is because the OP of the thread called it such (see the link that I've included as it's the source). But yes in Real OEM the part number 51467073533 is listed as "oddments tray".

With this removed you should be able to unplug the connector, if you take a look at some of dwoodford1987's photos then it shows the cables is routed back further towards the rear of the car. I'm sure this is how I accessed mine.

However failing that, it's not too much work to take of the rear centre console if you need to, again the "source" link (here or above under the picture) it shows a good guide.

As a final note, my module never caused me any issues, I was still able to run the car perfectly, however the airbag light was on the dash and I'm not certain whether the module would activate any of the airbags in the eventuality that I actually needed them. This is my original thread if anyone wants more info/the background.
