Accelerator delay

Had the car 3 weeks now and love it.

But I have noticed an annoying delay with the accelerator.

When I'm at a junction to pull away in comfort mode, I depress the accelerator and (in my minds eye) it feels like it moves about 1cm before I hear a change in engine tone and then feel the power to pull away, is this normal ?

Is this an auto or manual?

All modern BMWs have some accelerator lag and the auto also has a bit of lag, add the two and its noticeable big time, but you get used to it.

One of the things I didn't like about my e85 originally was the accelerator lag, but again I got used to it and you tend to put on the gas before you need it just that bit to compensate. Its something to do with the fact these cars can learn your driving style, the time it takes to work it all out when you press the pedal and the map the car is in (normal/comfort, sport etc) Its also to make the car more comfortable, no lurching or shunting on the drive train if you're a bit crap at pedal control.

You should find that in sport mode its much more responsive.

It's a manual box. When I have run it in (350 miles to go) I will try with the sport mode and compare.

Also I may try the spare (as yet unused) key and see if that makes a difference if the keys learn your driving style.
 
You'll probably notice only half the lag on a manual box then. As I say my old e85 had this (which was a manual) now I have the e89 with DCT and that's a whole other experience to learn if you want the best from it. If you're concerned go and see your dealer who I'm sure will let you drive another to check that all is well. I suspect its just something you'll need to get used to. It shouldn't be major, more like you could quickly move the throttle around and it won't jerk back and forth. As I say you'll notice things crisp up nicely in sport/+ . I actually bought the e85 (2005 car) from my brother who only had it a few months and hated the throttle delay and who went on to buy a Honda S2000 as that doesn't have any adaptive stuff nor at that point did it have any traction control, a real raw sports car, a cracker... until the brakes seized on one day!

Hi Morgana,
I found the same as Maniac with my E85 manual I had before. It was a bit laggy compared to my previous car which had a cable throttle not a fly-by-wire. I have the big brother to your car now (same colour scheme and everyfin'), 35i in a Manual and it is similar in the lagging respect but if you slip it into sport mode it's much quicker to pick up.
Also, on a side note, I think your car only has one turbo :? Just with two scrolls inside it!

I have an E85 with auto transmission.
I noticed a slight hesitation in normal stop and go driving.
In Sport Mode it seemed to disappear.
I mentioned this to my SA when I was in for a service.
Upon return I was told that my gasoline was 15% ethanol and that I should use Shell Hi Test as it is 100% gasoline.
I now only use Shell and the hesitation has disappeared.
Go figure ?
