Hi guys. Its Christmas lights on the dashboard time :-(

Intermittantly clears and reoccurs if restart the car and itermittant pedal vibration when using the brake at low speed which i assume is abs kicking it when it should not. Handbrake not on at time of taking photo but dash light illuminated. Started with just a phantom flat tyre light last week then yesterday:

I am correct to presume first step is replace ABS sensor(s)? Should i do both rears or just the one?

Anything else to check do you think?

Pagid seem to offer sensors at double price of a no name brand, are they worth extra the money?

Hoping isnt a difficult job.
Thank you

I've the same issue, ABS pump and module is now out of the car and away to be inspected and hopefully repaired as a new one is £1500 from BMW

Did you try replacing sensors first? My understanding is the sensors are not likely to fail/fairly simple kit?

The garage has been dealing with it for me so not sure what has been done so far

Pull all the Wheel Speed Sensors and give them a good clean as they get filthy and the reluctor rings also. I had the 'trifecta' of lights a few years back and sent the ABS pump away for inspection. It was fine. Replaced the brake pressure sensors, made no difference. Pulled and cleaned the W.S.S and wire brushed the reluctors and all the lights went out and all has been fine ever since

Had exactly the same last week. replaced the sensor that the scanner reported and all is back to normal.

Cheers, tug

There are sensors on all four wheels, not just the rears.
If your speedo is working then it is not the rear left.

Eyup mate, your spot on as usual. Just info for the O.P. my speedo stopped working at the same time.

What actually are the reluctor rings and how do you get to them?
I have my discs off at the moment, so felt I should give the reluctors a clean.

Reluctor rings are part of the drive shafts not available from BMW on their own but are available from the internet for around £15-£25 each

The shiny bits on the rings are where they have rubbed against the sensors and killed the sensor

It is a drive shaft out job to replace them

I did mine on my 1 series in a few hours

The Z4M drive shafts where proper seized in I needed help to remove them

Up date....speedo stopped working on Thursday. ABS and traction all off. Only plus side is that its stopped counting milage

Replacing both the rear sensors on Wednesday and hoping solves the issue. I replaced the reluctor rings last year as for some time suspected there was something happening at the rear passenger wheel, spinning too easily on left hand bends/coming roundabouts. There were in pretty bad shape at 95k miles

My ABS unit was refurbished for £380 and now back in the car along with a big service and is running like a dream

I guess I must be missing something but is this the part that was sent off and refurbished?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/29549460...MI_7ixu92o_QIVUu3tCh3-cQN5EAQYAiABEgIJivD_BwE

Does it need coding to the car or likely to be faulty too or really hard to find the exact model/part number?

Just seems, to the uneducated (me,) to be a lot cheaper than a refurbishment.

I don't need one but would be interesting to know for in the future. Also that is one of the more expensive ones on ebay.

Just to close this off for future readers with same symptoms. Replaced both the sensors, OEM spec, all working fine again.

I probably could have replaced just the nearside rear sensor but opted for both a cheap enough. Back to :driving: :driving: :driving:

I have the same lights on at the moment. Purchased the Creator 310+. Quite a few codes to clear but most importantly the OBD reader identified that my front left wheel sensor was faulty. See image.

When others have replaced, where have they purchased? I found some cheap ones on Ebay but more inclined to spend a bit more. This one on Euro Car Parts is £48.....anyone else purchased elsewhere?

Have a look at Parts in Motion www.partsinmotion.co.uk

Think I went for this: https://www.partsinmotion.co.uk/car-parts/braking/abs-sensors/lemarkabssensorlab203-detail, but mine was the rear. You will need something like this:https://www.partsinmotion.co.uk/car-parts/braking/abs-sensors/lemarkabssensorlab313-detail. But there are loads of brands to choose from depending on how much you want to spend... Bosch is less than the EuroCarParts above: https://www.partsinmotion.co.uk/car-parts/braking/abs-sensors/boschabssensor0986594527-detail

I paid for next day delivery and it was here by 1030 - great service.

Just seen your mileage.... very low!!

Wow, those are much cheaper. Thanks for this.

I will have a think. When did you replace yours?

Yeh, my mileage is silly low. I should drive it more🤣

This one worked for me.
