ABS sensor wiring cut (just bought car)

I just bought a used 2003 Z4 2.5i.
It has all sorts of brake/DSC lights lit up in the cluster. INPA told me LF and LR abs speed sensors not working. I bought new sensors and after installing no change.

I chased the wires only to find that someone cut the wires to both sensors. I soldered them back together which fixed all the ABS problems.

Why would someone intentionally cut these wires?

I cut the wires on my first car that had ABS. A MK1 ford Mondeo 24vSI. The system was slow witted and upset the cornering Ballance dramatically a few times. It was much more predictable on the limit without it. Modern ABS is far better than me at judging lockup though. So unless you were going drifting or wanted to crash a lot, I can't think why someone would cut them deliberately.
