ABS pump problem

Seem to have a problem with my ABS pump with warning lights being thrown up on the dash. Seems I can tap the pump a number of times and when I next set off the warning lights clear only to re-appear in some 4 or 5 miles down the road. I can repeat this tapping exercise ad infinitum but always same result the warning lights eventually re-appear.

Any ideas what is the best solution to resolve this and any idea of costs as applicable?
BTW 2008 E85.

Cheers

Just dropped the car in for the fault codes to be read. If it is as suspected then my trusted dealer will remove the pump and send onwards to ECU Testing. Once returned it will be re-fitted and back in business. Good news is ECU have a deal on at the moment and repair cost is £60 less than normal.
Damned annoying given the car has only done 49K miles and is a 2008 model but does seem as if this is a very common failure on BMW's but also to a lesser degree other brand models.
