After my traction control issue, diagnosis is that the ABS control unit is Donald.... I wondered if anyone know if these parts are specific to the E85 or if other models like a 3 series etc would be the same part? TIA
I had mine repaired a few months ago and it's been fine since. It was recommended that the faulty sensor which had possibly caused the issue was replaced too.

I had it done at a local (Kent) indy BMW specialist. They sent it off to one of their repairers, I don't know which. It wasn't ECU Testing though. Unit repair was £195, + secure posting of £55, + labour + VAT plus the replacement sensor.
BMW replacement ECU is £900 or £1400, depending on which type, they told me, + VAT I suspect.
As has been mentioned, you should have had the original unit removed and sent to ECU testing for refurbishment with updated parts that have a lifetime warranty included, for about £300.
At that price, i presume its a BMW original- which will fail again in the future.
Edit to add- just noticed it was done under goodwill- so saved you that massive expense- but as before, it will fail again!
