About to let my M Coupe go - advert question.

Hello all,

I've decided with a heavy heart to let my 24k mile M Coupe go and concentrate my resources on my old 59 Chevy pick up.

I'm going to sell the ZM privately and will be doing my own advert and pics.

I'm looking for a few pointers in what folk would want from an advert and what pictures are best to include?
I've seen a few that go on forever and doubt I need that, but I would like to strike a good balance.

Also, what's the best way to deal with test drives? Obviously I'll want to see insurance cover, but can someone arrange that for just a test drive?

Cheers,
Nige

I am by no means an expert on car ads but have sold quite a few cars (performance cars) privately. Things I have learnt and picked up along the way so happy to help others to get theirs sold. Fell free to ignore it all

Don't write the ad from emotion, like its your baby it's a business ad so take out all the flowery stuff. I have found the following format works well and the content is all based on questions people always ask. Keep it short, concise and factual.

I would get the tax and mot fully up to date so people can see it wants for nothing that way you are more likely to achieve your asking price.

Put Owners/Mileage - list services with mileage/date carried out/MOT/Tax/Next service/depth of tyres at the very top then move the list of additional options with factory options under that.

Put it on Pistonheads; this site in my experience (recent) is the best place to sell nice and clean premium cars. Start it at a realistic price which you are happy to accept - don't start at a silly high price then reduce it every week by £250 I saw this a lot when I was looking.

Be prepared for loads of duplicate questions, swap ideas and arseholes using Ebay.

GLWTS

Simon.

Thanks Simon, that advice is much appreciated.

I think it could be tricky to remove emotion from the ad as I've become very attached to the car and it was a tough decision over which one to move on..!!

Some great info there though and much appreciated.

Cheers.

Pictures are for showing the general condition of the car take lots then pick the best ones, dont be afraid to show scuffs or scratches in pictures either some people may come a long way to see the car and be disappointed if you are not honest about the true condition. Try to avoid taking pictures of tyres, satnavs and stereos etc.

Over & above the obvious, think about all the difficult & E&Y questions you'd ask, then put them in your ad.

As mentioned above pictures speak a thousand words so choose a good setting, lots of pics inside & out plus along the bodywork... close up if poss to show the condition.

Keep the advert detailed and objective and free of emotion.

Nothing more frustrating than people writing "the best condition Z4M available in the entire universe" or other such drivvle.

Your car will be priced at the higher end of the market (for reference I bought mine 2 months ago with 24,950 on the clock (all options other than DSP) for £17,350), and as such will take time to find the right buyer.

Keep faith, put a lot of objective/ factual data in the advert and enjoy the chevvy

Thanks for your input chaps.

I've written a few adverts and put a few in the bin.
It's a wrench selling a Z4M isn't it....?!!

I'm hoping to have it written up and suitable photos chosen by the weekend.

StevenH72, your post is of particular interest as yours is of a similar spec and mileage. Can I ask if you bought privately or from a dealer?

Nige,

I bought mine privately. Although when I picked it up it had 6 months Tax 12 months MOT and had been serviced the week before. Tyres had 5-6mm all round and plenty of life left in the brake pads/ discs (all factored into what I was willing to pay). Bearing in mind I also purchased it at the beginning of summer also.

I guess these things always impact what people are willing to pay.

I hope that helps and GLWTS. Any other questions just ask.

All good info Steve. That's great to know.
I can certainly factor these things in.
Much appreciated. :0)

Your m will be in demand as it has a low mileage , I was looking for a similar mileage car when I bought mine , its a big selling point , the rest is an up to date service schedule , and tidy paintwork/interior . Good luck and be prepared for some slightly irritating folk until you get someone who genuinely wants it !
