Lets see how it goes!
Got my stone guard thingybob, got mitts and sponge, got the car and got nice sunshine :D
Any technique tips?

:) for me, its always wash in shade or cloudy weather, to stop the soap drying on the paintwork - so today, work fast :)

Wash one panel at a time and rinse before going on to next panel and after touching the car the washmit only ever goes into the rinse bucket.

Just about to do mine.

When it's sunny I always hose off the bit I have just cleaned, and then quickly douse the rest of the car to keep it wet. Once done, dry like a maniac, starting on the windows and the sunnier side

Have to say, I used a huge (proper) drying towel for the first time last weekend and it took me less than 10mins to dry - laid it on, took it off, and almost all the water was gone from where it was lying. Bloody marvellous !

Make sure you dry the car straight away, water spots are a pig to remove!

Flimper you're so right! I have learnt an important lesson today about black cars and water spots

You'll be wanting to get some of this :-

I buy it by the gallon and it makes getting a perfect finish so much easier!

The 2BM wash is the only way to avoid swirls, although to be honest it won't help much if the car already has some.

I give it a couple of months before you get a machine polisher :)

To clarify, as the website isn't clear, I spray some of that product over the bodywork whilst the car is still wet and then buff the car dry with a huge fluffy drying towel.

If the finish isn't perfect then when it's dry I take a clean polishing cloth and spray each panel a little more and buff off one at a time. Car looks blinged :driving:

haha, i had exactly the same problem, the neighbours must've thought i was strange, i had to re-wash it..

on a related topic, what does a grit guard do? well, the clue's in the name, but surely all the crap goes to the bottom of the rinsing bucket anyway, so what's the guard for?

I'm no expert, but as far as I'm aware you rub your wash mitt against it to help remove grit.
