About to buy a Z4M but...

I had a Z4 3.0i a couple years ago, great car & I vowed to get the M version before I get too sensible. That time has now come ..... :D . So ..... I went to view this one today :

Was in superb condtion, test drive spot-on. Good service history BUT the Inspection ll was done in Feb 2013 by a Lotus specialist not BMW. Is that a cause for concern? Invoice came to a whopping £1100 but incl discs & pads all-round, plugs, oil & air filter etc.

However, I reckon it's pricey at £16,850. So gonna go & look at a private one this week which is £3k cheaper, similair miles & history BUT no CSL wheels (they are awesome)...! :

This has been for sale for a few months now, but the seller sounds decent & it seems a bargain with good history.

My quandry is it really worth forking out an extra £3k (which is prob beyond my budget anyway) for a similair one at a dealers albeit with CSL wheels / warranty / peace of mind / great history etc??
 
I'd go number 2, it's been up for an age so a deal could likely be done as well. Also the first says csl style wheels, if they are not true csls then you can buy a set of reps yourself for £500 or a real set for about 1k.

I'd ALWAYS buy from an enthusiast, dealers are all lying bastards and you're no better off buying from them anyway. A 6 month warranty is the only benefit and it ain't much good if you're at the other end of the country.

Number 2 has also been serviced at teesside autotech which I'd take over any dealer servicing too.

Number two from Pistonheads for me as well. I don't believe those wheels are original csl wheels so I wouldn't put that as a positive certainly not for the price difference. If number one has new brakes and Inspection 2 then the gulf between the prices isn't that much really depending on the second cars life left in its brakes. If you are concerned re warranty it might be worth checking with BMW to see if you can get one of theirs added to car number two. Most second hand shop warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on.

That's a very good point regarding inspections and brakes, if number 2 is affected by this then that's the stick to beat him with for a deal.

This is Phill's car (forum member) and he is indeed a lovely bloke. So lovely he put up with me trying to haggle him down for about 2 months to no avail! Lacks bluetooth but to be perfectly honest that's nothing when you're talking about a car this good and in this condition from somebody that clearly looks after his cars. And look at the colour combo - Midnight Blue with Sepang interior! Whats not to love?!

Good luck with beating him over the head on price though. This is a car thats priced to sell as you'll have seen and I doubt he'll budge or give it away. Could be wrong, but don't think so it as I tried VERY hard!

Never understood that term - the price is there to sell it and in this case it hasn't sold for a while so by definition its not priced to sell!

I think it's just a nicer way of saying 'no offers' :rofl:

Like I say, good luck to the OP with bartering. If somebody really isnt in a rush and given these cars are pretty good at holding their price currently I think it will be tricky.
 
The first car is overpriced, even with the work done it's worth £16k tops (I think £15.5k is a fairer price).

Higher (relative to ///M's) mileage cars aren't selling well at the moment. Phil is struggling to sell his at £13.8k and woody's (a car well known to the forum, just had an Insp 2 and other consumables replaced) sold at £13k with 67k on the clock.

I would go with Phil's, personally I don't know him but the car looks fantastic is a very rare colour (only 17 in the UK). He seems to be a conscientious and careful owner so the car should have been well looked after (although the parrot bluetooth ruins the looks of the inetrior imo).
 
I think you accept with a Z4MC that it might take a while to sell your car. There aren't many of them for a reason - they were a niche product from the start. That means your pool of potential buyers is quite small. Sometimes it takes a little longer, other times purely by chance, you time your advert just at the time someone is looking for a car with your spec/mileage/colour/price etc. Often it's luck-of-the-draw.

There are a few Midnight Blue's up for sale at the moment which is highly unusual as there are only 17 UK ones. If you love the colour you should snap Phil's or Ramy's up because it could be a long time before another one comes onto the market.

Cheers for the heads-up fella's :thumbsup: . Those CSL's on the Z4M at Parkways did have "BMW" stamped on them in-between the spokes so I presume they're real ones, or am I just being naiive?? Plus brand new Kuhno tyres all round. HOWEVER yes - I totally agree with the concensus, it is overpriced even with these on. Phil's car does look v tempting so going to have a look ASAP when he gets back to me. And ta for the warning Inkey... I'm a Sales Engineer myself so I'll have to be at sharpest obviously.... :? !

Slight, ahem, fly in the ointment now is my Alfa GTV V6 3.0 has just yesteday failed its MOT AND had 15 advisories 8) ! Nothing major (brakes, airbag light, emissions etc) but it will affect what I can afford on the Z4M. Will prob keep the GTV for a time as well cos it's fab esp that lusty V6 engine. I reckon the 3.2 BMW 6 cyl in the Z4M is about as close a great engine as I'm ever likely to get to it at an affordable price.

PS - ooops sorry - is "Alfa" a swear word on here...??? :P !
