Went to mates house for Easter..minor issue with self closing electric gate.

Dent on rear arch with massive chip, rear panel, door and front wing scratched really badly and mirror sheared off completely. Doesn't look so bad in the pics but it's a mess :x

Insurance job, £1500 for the repairs apparently. Stuck now with a 1L polo as a courtesy car.

Ouch! :headbang:

So I understand gate / car was involved, but was it a gate malfunction, or driver error? (sorry probably not the sort of question you want!!)

Was it friends personal gate or secured gated parking at a flat? If flat and malfunction is there any potential route to claim against the freeholder?

Unfortunately friends gate which has a delayed self close. Normally drive straight in and close the gate by pushing the remote. Tried to revse in from a really tight alleyway...was so worried about the front end and talking so much time I didn't see the gate start to close...or actually realise that it would. Roof was up and that big over shoulder blind spot is exactly where the gate came from. Massive thud as it hit the rear arch, I tried to reverse and turn out of the way which worked to an extent on the bodywork but mirror still caught up. Only took 10 seconds but felt like a lifetime.

I'd rip the gate of its hinges! Then apologise to your mate....

Just one of those things fella, I feel your pain.
