Age helps and 'respectable job'. My insurance is £650 fully comp with the missus as named driver. That's only 3 years no claims, due to company cars. Despite having no claims in 12 years, 3 years is all I could prove.

Strangely enough, on my previous car, Golf MkIV v6 4motion, adding my missus actually dropped the premium by around £100. Perhaps they assume being engaged, I won't be kerb crawling and high tailing it away from the rozzers!

I was 21 when I insured my Z4M Roadster with modification. £1350 ish. I have 3yrs NCB and used to have a 350Z GT4 with mods for about £1400 at 20yrs old too.

Postcode's a big factor on cost. Many specialist insurers won't consider you if you have a Liverpool postcode as I do. A little annoying as I don't live in Liverpool and I have not claimed on insurance for 15 years
