A6 Avant 2.0TDI auto/ any experiences ?

told mrs w earlier i was planning to sell her golf & try out an A6 estate & she didn't respond to well :| she has taken a real shine to her pocket rocket :)
i have friends with audis & have toured germany & france in work related A4/A6 so have some idea on their capabilities but have never put my own cash into the 4 rings as BMW or merc have always taken it first .
now that 07/08 plates are hitting £8/£9k with top spec i was fancying a dabble into the vorsprung durch technik :|
feel free to persuade me one way or the other :wink:
 
The extent of my experience is that the multitronic gearbox is horrible and the 2.7tdi is thirsty with little improvement over the 2.0tdi. I don't think the a6 got the BKD engine but if it did don't buy one. Auditsport.net is probably a good place to do some research.
 
We hate our TT-S tbh it just leaves us flat in terms of the driving & general involvement & we thought we would like the s-tronic gearbox as it gets good reviews, but that doesn't suit the laggy turbo engine, it's only the second Audi we have owned we had a mk 1 TT as few years ago, but we will never go Audi again.

I have always liked Audi avant s though & they may do a better job than Audi do sports cars, I can recommend the 5 series touring though its a great steer, but I would go 6 pot next time as the 4 pot diesel is gutless, I wish you all the best in your search :)
 
My wifes Audi is the 3.0TDI Quattro with an auto box.

We bought it at the end of 07 and I have to say that if the financial roof fell in that the Audi would be the last car to go !

Good economy 30/45 - fast enough to get into trouble and sticks like glue. Servicing cost are ok.

The steering feels a bit numb but it goes where its pointed and will beat most cars out of a corner.

She gets quite angry when I talk of selling it!
 
My wife drives a 2.litre tdi multitronic.She thinks its the best car she has had(mainly audis and vw's,a couple of 1 series and a volvo).I like driving it.The box is wonderful much better than the stronic she had in the A3's she had.Not as good as the Z's auto but the difference is small.It really is a wonderful car and I think she will have another one,when she decides,which is usually when we go pass the Audi garage and she fancies a cup of tea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
we bought my wife a 60 plate TT diesel last month, we are both very enthusiastic about it so far. great mid range torque from the diesel engine, comfortable, quiet. satnav not as easy to use as the BMW system.

great fuel economy compared to the zed!
 
My 2p's worth Andy..

The 2.0Tdi can be a troublesome pig,there is a myriad of faults..Turbo's,injectors,EGR valve,rotten wiring looms,throttle motor..

Manual gearboxes shag the bearings around 70-80k,and a dual mass will be needed too..

I do quite like the look of the A4 Avant S-line but for me a 2.0T would do the job.

A mate of mine got his money back from the dealers on an A6 3.0 TDi Lemans as it went faulty that often. He fought them tooth and nail and won in the end, the car was failing on a fortnightly basis..

He bought an X5 in the end...

I agree totally regards the satnav it does seem less complicated in a Beemer & I am glad your happy with the TT, I must admit the mrs misses the torque from the 330d we had before the TT... Trouble is she would much sooner have that back & we covered 154k miles in it & bought the TT brand new, different cars obviously suit different tastes :)
 
think the A6 too big for our needs for the majority of time & would you buy a car based on its need for 4/5 weeks a year as a loadlugging tourer ?
also took on board the negatives such as the autobox,dull drive & the potential problems . got to say i really don't fancy any car with DPF as its main routine is mrs w's 3 mile commute + dropping daughter all over town . not sufficient to raise engine temp to activate re-gen on DPF / thtat,s why i went for the 140BHP golf tdi
SOOOOoo it could be the 320/325 petrol sport tourer or maybe the later shape C Class estate ?
mrs w was taken by a R Class in silver . man that was sumptious inside but the size of a coach ! :P
 
My wife has10 plate 2ltr high out put 180bhp speed line with all the bells and whistles great car 40+ to the gall loves it ,it's a manual which helps get over the turbo lag ,we bought ours from crew Audi they were fantastic to deal with and her previous car was a cayenn so it had a lot to stand up to would recommended
 
We run an A6 Avant (2007) that we've owned from new. It makes for a perfect family wagon alongside the Z4MC and a 2012 Polo diesel. Reliable, stylish and one of the best interiors you'll find in any car at any price. Ours has the exclusive line interior package. I like it... :-)

Not sure I would go for a 320i tourer. My father in law has a 320i E93 and it is absolutely gutless. I can only imagine how utterly pointless that engine would be in a load lugging tourer. I've also had a bit of a thing against the 325i as it's running costs aren't much different from a 330i but the power increase is quite significant.

Sadly nearly all diesels that will be newer than your current Golf will have a DPF. It sounds to me that for 90% of the cars use you would be better off with a petrol anyway.
