A27 Plane Crash

I just hope the elf and safety bods don't start drawing a line where older aircraft are concerned, I always get the uneasy feeling that some berk aviation committee will start ruling out aircraft which are deemed elderly, certificate of air worthyness or not. I hope that never happens.

I agree, and im glad the pilot didnt bail. As you say it means he tried his hardest.
 
I don't think they'll stop air shows or older aircraft from being shown but I do think there will be some changes as to stunts etc where there is built up areas, major roads etc nearby.

Like others have pointed out usually these are done over fields, over sea and away from the public but still within public view.

It would be a real shame to loose these displays with older aircraft due to this incident.

It's just unfortunate as to where this has happened and that it's the third crash within a month in the UK. Two during a show and one preparing.
 
Just seen it on the news, terrible accident !, It said the pilot survived ?? Poor buggers on the ground though.
 
Don't get me wrong, I'm no health & safety jobsworth. However, it's a bit ridiculous to have ageing military aircraft performing low altitude manoeuvres like that close to a busy dual carriageway in an urban area.

Just like everything in life. You could triple check you car before a trip but 10 mins in have a failure that was totally unforeseen
 
looks from the footage as though pilot was pulling out of the dive - the jet was almost parallel with the ground when it crashed. Shocking footage, tragic accident.

Nope, appears that it hit the A27 at the traffic lights opposite Lancing College - just where traffic would be queuing to turn into the airport. Local reports are saying that, as well as the cars that were hit, a couple of cyclists were killed and although the pilot was pulled from the wreck he's died on the way to hospital

They still state on the BBC website that the pilot is alive though.

Yes, he's currently the critical condition one and fighting for his life according to the news.

And unfortunately they think they'll find more bodies over the next couple of days :(

Edit - I've just noticed the people to the right hand edge of the picture :cry:
 
Looking at the video footage it looks almost as if the plane has skimmed the ground with less of an impact and possibly why the pilot has survived albeight is critical. Amazing he or she has come out of that at all, but shocking to see some of the images coming to light.

The canopy is open in that picture, I wonder if he ejected as it hit, at ground level.

Those people at the edge. My god. There's at least one photo on the Daily Mail website that I'm not sure should be on there :cry:

Weird thing is, in one of the pictures during the loop the aircraft looks to have its flaps down. Now I'm no expert, but I have done some flying, and I'm pretty sure you don't use your flaps during a high speed aerobatic manoeuvre. That would slow the aircraft, disrupt the airflow, and could lead to a stall...

Yep, he appears to still be alive but local reports were saying 'died on the way to hospital' at the time I posted

And I believe that's only due to worried friends and family contacting the police re people in the area who haven't made contact or returned home. So sad, must be horrific for those trying to piece it all together and recover the bodies

truly shocking news over the weekend, and thoughts go to all those involved.

am I alone in not wanting to see all these pictures that have emerged? How can any of them help those families involved.
