cj_eds, wish the weather was better here - no, this was last Sunday's work with an hour or two on the Mon & Tues evenings (inside the garage...).

KERMIT1970, thanks - they're still not the prettiest of calipers but at least now they're not the black/rusty effect that all BMW calipers seem to default to...

andysat, nope, didn't cover the brakes. I just used Chemical Guys very-strong-stuff (can't recall name) left on for a few mins, then elbow grease with a brush.

Nosa, cheers, I had to at least try something to challenge the shinyness of the Maldives chariot for the Applecross meet :thumbsup:
 
I have just had a read through this. I especially like the oil refinery photographs on page 3, particularly the last one which is stunning!

You can get some curious looks sometimes when you're seen washing a 'clean' car, or cleaning the engine bay etc! often there'll be a comment that late into a full days of car valeting someone will tell you that it could've all been done in 10 mins by the lot down in the nearby car park...

Looked like a decent sunset on Sunday so I decided at the last second to head out for some sunset pics, but was running late. Didn't have enough time to get along to my favourite spots, so took a detour into Grangemouth. I always wanted to get some night shots around there with the oil refinery and plant in the background. So I found this big car park, completely empty, partly flooded from the rain we'd had. Perfect. Spent a happy 30mins snapping away and was about to pack up up when I got apprehended by security! Turns out they'd been tracking me on camera for the past 30mins because they viewed me as a security risk LOL - thought I was taking pics of the plant (the refinery is apparently a potential major target...). And it didn't end there. Their orders (from MI5 apparently) were to report anyone caught taking pics on the site to the police. So I had to hang around for the police! They were perfectly fine about it all when they realised what I'd been doing but I still got my name taken and told not to come back :D

You should have given the Team America secret signal and you would have been fine :D

Looking great as always Ally :thumbsup: , as when Steve posted some pictures a while ago I think I need someone to assist me in my cleaning efforts as I have no idea what I'm doing or what products do what, beyond the occaisional polish and coat of wax.

Always a shame I can't repeat those oil refinery photos, but I'd better not push my luck. Was a great photo location too...

Richard, PM me if you want me to put a shopping list together. Until I got my first "proper" car in 2004 I didn't know much about car cleaning but have gradually learned since then. I'm by no means an expert in the least and try to avoid spending ££££ (I'm Scottish), but I'll help if I can.
 
ally, when is your MOT due? as you have retrofitted xenons like me

(i think it was you when this was discussed last year?)

Mine's mid-October, so still a few months to try and figure out what's going to happen. When's yours? (wondering who's going to be a test case :lol:)

I've seen this info posted by RichIbizaSport recently (you've seen it already cos you've posted in that thread!) which suggests aftermarket xenons/HIDs are continuing to be passed as long as they're correctly adjusted. But until I've got first-hand experience I remain dubious. I've got a spare pair of rear covers for my headlights and can easily convert back to halogens if required, but I'd rather not if I can help it. Guess I'll need to reinstate my headlight washers before MOT too - I've got the fuse out of them at the moment to avoid drenching the whole car when I clean the windscreen.
 
mine is in july, but i have a 'friendly' garage i can use - although im still keen to see what the outcome would be for say kwikfit or alike

Anyones MOT up before mine?
 
Following the mega-detail, a free evening finally coincided with some decent weather so I grabbed the camera and headed out for a nice little drive and some photos:
