Just in case you are travelling to Europe by ferry like I did today , be warned that the Dutch immigration police breathalyser ever driver getting off the ferry!

Surely that would only be of concern to those who drink & drive - and I'm happy if they get caught!

If your travelling down to France beware the roundabout later at night , gendarmes cover all entrances and exits and test at will , my Dutch mate got tested 3 times in one week !

I suppose for a lot of people they probably wouldn't have a drink if they were driving the next day but if someone if travelling on a ferry overnight and it's for their holidays they may be inclined to have a drink at night on board.

Two issues, the limit in mainland Europe is less than England and Wales but the same as Scotland and although this was mentioned in the news in December still people don't know the limit on the mainland vs England and Wales. Also even if your not drinking the fact every driver is being stopped and checked will be adding on time leaving the port. Not so bad if your at the front, but if your at the back it may add up to a considerable wait.

Some valid and sobering thoughts to be considered I think

Why is the alcohol limit not just set as zero, no grey areas can I have one/ two , remove temptation .
I agree one hundred per cent but I would imagine there's to many variables , alcohol in food and medicines maybe ?
I like a drink but can't see the point in having one or two and risking my licence , far rather walk or bus and get arseholed  I do live in a town centre though :D

Because it is impossible for your body to be totally alcohol free as it generates its own from foods you eat, also alcohol is present in many everyday products such as mouthwash, cold cures like Day nurse/Night nurse and a whole host of others, it can also be absorbed through the skin by use of aftershave/perfume.

I wasn't suggesting to drink and drive !

The ferry I use is an overnighter and there is the offer of free wine and beer if you travel premium delux - temptation is there !

It was just a heads up incase you feel a little more relaxed because the holiday has started.

I am glad it is not zero because my diabetes can give a false positive reading. Something to do with raised levels of ketone bodies, or so Google says!

Setting the limit at zero just isn't practical.

Besides, setting the limit lower isn't the answer. Seriously, the people getting caught aren't the sort who have had just one or two drinks. No. The people getting caught have normally had WAY too much. They don't care what the limit is, because they'll be twice, three times or four times the limit anyway. That's where the fatalities on the road come from. There's no evidence of people getting involved in fatal accidents after one glass of wine.

Reducing the limit just catches out more, normally law abiding citizens, the day after. Totally pointless...
