A Wobbly Start!

Hi All

At the weekend I started my 2004 3.0 and the engine could barely tick over - car shook a little and the revs were jumping up and down. Almost like something was blocking the exhaust but was nothing there. I gave it some "gas" (as the yanks would say) and the engine settled back down again. I felt like there was a drop in power for a while - foot down and lots of noise but no uuumph (technical term).

She seems fine now, but does anyone know/suspect what this might be?

Possibly your battery is weak, especially since you said it did not start well. When my battery went bad/weak recently, in addition to starting problems, it affected how the engine ran. There was a loss of power and I noticed that if I tried to rev the engine under no load (clutch disengaged), the engine was rather unresponsive and lagged badly.
 
Before you put it away/finished using it the time before, you didn't start it and stop it without running it for a while did you? eg wash car, say, then just put it straight in the garage.

Mine doesn't like that.

+1 really doesnt like that. and your symptoms sound similar to what happens if I do do that.
