A 'wheel' dilemma

I currently have a set of 108's which could do with a refurb. I do love the looks of the 108's but from what I've read if I get them refurbed they are likely to corrode. Do I shell out £500 to get them refurbed? Or buy some 18" csl reps for about the same cost? Just want to see what the general opinion is :)

had the same dilemma when mine needed refurbing...

fact I've now got 203's show's which way I jumped :D

It's a toughie as the 108's really do suit the car. Tempted to just get them refurbed, but then got the hassle of finding wheels to use while the jobs being done or find a place that will do the whole job in one day!

£500 for refurbishment sounds a lot, but that said I don't know how much it'd cost, especially if they have to be split. If faced with that, I'd probably go down the CSL rep route you mentioned, esp. if they're around the same price mark...

I understand the dilemma, my 107's are in desperate need of a refurb - they were pretty ropey behind the spokes before winter, when I cleaned them this weekend they were a right state - it's embarrasing and needs rectifying I think!

108s for me - still on the originals and no corrosion after 7 years of ownership from new. Just need to seal the inner rim joint and clean/polish regularly. Especially after a wash make sure the inner rim is dry.

What Alan says.

Corrosion will only ensue if the refurbed finish isn't sealed properly. That means good quality materials, several coats of lacquer and some wax for belt and braces.

Hi Alan, can you let me know what you used to seal the inner rim joint please? Any tips would be very welcome as I have just got my 2nd set of 108's and would like to keep them in pristine condition.
TIA
Norman

I'm in exactly the same position as the OP. Considering 107's but they seem to come up rarely (i know i missed a set on here about a month ago) and obviously there is the problem of what to do with the car whilst they're being refurbed. They really let the car down and i would love to have them sorted for summer.

Ideally there would be a forumite in surrey who wants to change from his 107's but has a 2nd car so refurbing isn't an issue.

I have used clear silicone

Cheers guys, some food for thought there
If I go the refurb route I will have to stock up on wheel sealant / wax by the sounds of it. Shame the 108's are such high maintenance as they are one of the best looking wheels for the z.
