You won't read this cos you will be asleep, but hey-ho! :)

I thought you would love this thread as the OP loves a Crapi.
Yeah, but that was mentioned quite early on before all the boring stuff about how close your arse is to the rear axle started.

Go away Martin (how polite is that?), this thread is for coupe lovers. Take a leaf out of Stuart’s book and expand your horizons. :poke:

The 2000GT is a beautiful car, in an era where curves ruled, the db5, the ferrari dino, porsche 356 and 911 still stand proud and display elegance in volumes in my opinion. I just about remember my eldest brother buying the beautiful vw mk1 scirocco in the late 70s, and then trading it in for a Datsun 280z in the mid 80s. Both great cars, still very much talked about by our family and friends.

Hopefully you're asleep now then. :P

Or you could always start a thread about Roadsters! :poke:

Oh yes.
My childhood family car (or at least the one I remember the most) was a first edition, 1972, RA22 Toyota Celica 1600ST in white with 'Cosmic' alloy wheels. JJJ 656K. The most important car in my life. I loved that car more than anything else on the planet (I was around 8-10 years old).
It was our family car for a few years. A family of 4 with a 2+2 coupe! Practicality and family priorities didn't really count a lot to my father.

If I could find an unmolested 1972 RA22 in white I would sell my house to buy it. But there is no such vehicle anywhere, I have been looking for many years. There are a few 'facelift' RA22s around, but none of the very early ones without being turned into F&F chav mobiles.

…Also one I've been swooning over lately is the Mercedes SEC.

I love the MB SEC. Although it doesn’t meet the definition of coupe for the thread, I don’t know how else to describe it. I remember being very impressed by them as a child, not understanding that depreciation had rendered them the preserve of the local drug dealers by that time. In the absence of road salt, there are quite a few left here that haven’t started to rot yet. I’m often tempted…

When my wife and I met for the first time, we bonded over our love of coupes (hers an E Class, mine a Z4MC). Although other cars have come and gone in the meantime, we both still have them more than a decade later.

Does this count as a coupe? Two doors and a sloping rear, but no long bonnet:

Ah yes, the Beetle, one of the early coupes :P
Or were you showing us the F-Type and slope-backed Hyundai in the background?

Well, the F-type was with us on the trip, the Hyundai I guess must have been the support vehicle as per Top Gear

How times have changed - I remember when the Beetle was the Top Gear support car that no one wanted to drive :D

The E86 has been a niche choice since its inception. It’s a limited-edition, highly specialist vehicle as a consequence!

Speaking of 'sports cars', vs just being a 'coupe' or 'sporty' ... I was having a debate with a mate the other day. He reckons by definition it must be a 2 seat roadster with a clear focus on driving pleasure, so cars like a Miata, S2000, Lotus Elan etc. All definitely sports cars for me, sure. But then I find it hard to get my head round how you can say a Boxster is a sports car, but a Cayman isn't..because it has a roof? Come on. A Cayman GT4RS is in a totally different universe of performance to a 4 series but it's not a sports car, and just a coupe? The definition of a 'sports car' might set a few off in here, apologies if so

Seems like pre-70s sports cars and convertibles were somewhat synonymous, but AFAIAC that was 50 years ago and nowadays sports cars can have roofs.

Many years ago my mate had an RX7 and I never really saw what the fuss was about, nice car at the time but I was into hot hatches (205 etc) but now I would take an RX7, looking back it was a lovely thing.

I also like a Fiat Coupe Turbo, actually put a deposit on oneway years ago and pulled out of buying it.

I love the AR 8C in coupe guise, one of my favourite cars since it was launched.

Pondy is correct, everyone has different interpretation of coupe / GT / Sports cars etc and a sports car can have a roof these days same as some convertibles are exactly sporty such as a 206CC or Nissan Micra.

Each to their own but I am a roof down guy but would still buy a coupe if one really appealed to me.

Look everyone! OGR's been up all night drinking!

Each to their own ;-)

They are starting to increase in price and don't forget this was nearly 30 years ago and I still think they look ok (when you confined one that hasn't rusted away)

Be careful some people like Calibra's

I quite liked Calibra's when they came out... and I used to think the Cerbera was the best looking of all the TVRs.... but I have changed my mind a lot!
