I really liked this...

...until I saw the neglect in the engine bay :o

Why would anyone sell a car like that and claim it to be "pristine"

I know what you're saying about the dust, but the outside looks tidy and it isnt a bad price at £12k.

If its what youre looking for It shouldnt stop you viewing.

2 black ones on eBay for £16k!

They do pop up every now and then near the 10k mark..

The red one...You would think he would have cleaned the engine bay...or not put that picture in the add.

I dont think you'll find much for £10k now. Theyve been rising steadily over the last 2 years.

what about the mileage?

Under 7k per year - it's actually low mileage for the year!

I know it's only dust and general grime under the bonnet and it would be easy to clean it up, it's just doesn't give the impression of a well cared for and cherished car.

The exterior and interior look in fantastic condition for the mileage. As for the engine bay, some people don't always keep that area clean like some of us "as it's just the engine". But the advantage to a buyer seeing the engine like that, if there ever was an oil leak or something like that, it would stand out like a sore thumb in all the grime.
It's not hard to get the engine bay looking pristine again with a good detail.

I'm not sure..
The owner may have loved it and cleaned the outside regularly without lifting the bonnet as he put it in for servicing whenever it was due. Being wealthy and non-technical he may have left that to BMW and it wouldnt surprise me if they would do the necessary work without even consider cleaning it.

I know its dissapointing but iif the service stamps are all there and the outsides immaculate, it may not be a show stopper, just a reason to make a reduced offer ?

i cant recall when i last lifted my bonnet lol, however if i was selling it i'm sure i would

I prefer an engine bay that's a bit mucky. It's honest and you can see they're not trying to hide any oil leaks. Besides any oily bits won't corrode.
If that's his drive he won't need to go up and down over that gravel many times to get it dusty.

Am I being thick when it comes to AutoTrader ?
As I understand it, It tells you how far away from your postcode the car is, but it doesnt tell you where it is.
If its 70 miles away, I want to know in what direction. I.e. If its a route I travel regularly, I may be interested in stopping by to view but if its in a direction I never travel, I may not want to, or even be able to consider getting there.

How can you tell geographically where a car is ?

assuming the number is correct:

UK area code 01263 is for Cromer in Norfolk, and the surrounding area.

Locations using 01263 numbers include:

Aylsham
Cley
Cromer
Holt
Matlaske
Melton Constable
Mundesley
Overstrand
Saxthorpe
Sheringham
Southrepps
West Runton
Weybourne

If I was in the market for an Alpina I'd certainly be thinking about looking at this one. I would be more interested in the service history than a rather unclean engine bay.

If everything important checked out you certainly wouldn't be losing money in depreciation.

draw a 70 mile circle from your house, then use my postcode and draw a 140 mile circle, that should point out where it is lol
