A swift getaway...

Finding it very difficult to make a swift getaway without kangaroo hopping in the M... is this simply the CDV at work, the overactive throttle, or both?

I have no qualms about removing the CDV if it'll fix the issue but wanted to ask if others have any tips. I've driven plenty of other high powered manual cars before and not had this problem.

I don't remember my manual 330 being that bad, but then it didn't have the poke of the Zed.

You're being too gentle. Sport on, give it some poke

Seriously, anything other than 100% and you'll get some kangaroo. I've not taken the CDV on mine out, as I'm still under warranty. Might get a modified unit, but apparently the difference isn't as profound as, say, a 3.0i model.

Part of the unique character of the car

Switch the TC off, make sure you have enough torque to get the rears spinning, just a little. Hey presto no more hopping down the road, Simples

To be honest i'm happy to report, I've never had this problem on my MR. :)

no such issue here, clean get aways are not an issue....

I've started using sport mode all the time recently and found getaways are smoother. Only side effect is they are a little faster and sometimes there is a little wheel spin/chirp from the tyres

CDV will come out in the spring though I think.

Had my M for 18months now and have never had an issue. As far as I'm aware the CDV is still in place. When the car is cold it can be a bit jerky but this lasts a minute or 2 tops.

Never had that issue except when it's cold (Less Than -10 C) and until the car warms up a little I might get a little kangarooing when starting out slow. Give it some gas and it sorts its self out right away... :driving:

A direct drop into first and trying to go slow does not work. It has to be feathered in to work without doing the kangaroo hop. Any time that you are trying to show the missus/neighbor how civil the car can be....

I'm learning to get around it, but it's still annoying. If I'm driving very gently it is fine, if I am booting it then it is fine, but on mornings like say, yesterday, when I need to pull out of a junction that is cold and wet I want to move swiftly but not ludicrously fast then I still keep making a tit of myself. Usually putting my foot down in 2nd too early.

I'd read on the subject but I had seen several people say on the M the CDV delete doesn't do much and for some reason a lot of people with M3s and Z4M have more problems with the Z.

I also loathe the sport button in these things, if I had my way I'd want a button that does the opposite, I like a TVR-type throttle travel and a porsche-type brake pedal.

kangaroo can be three things, usually accelerator foot not planted correctly on the floor so that as you get pushed back you lift off causing the jerk. If it isn't that then it could be car sucking in hot air while sitting idle most common in summer traffic (blip of the throttle should clear it before taking off). For the rest they are functions of the car systems and being in sport with the DSC off might highlight which you are experiencing (too much or too little throttle). The anti stall type device so it will pull in the clutch or add more throttle if you aren't doing it right which sport mode might compensate for or the traction control can also limit power so if you give it too much gas with the systems on it will limit throttle, if you switch DSC off and it moves off fine or with a bit of slip then you were probably giving it a bit too much gas before or need new rear tyres.
