A saucepan of water, a dripping shower and a 50mm lens

Very cool, I had a similar idea this afternoon:

You got better splashes though :)

Thanks, coming to the end of my Project 365. Main reason for it was to get to know the camera better, and I have certainly achieved that... some of the shots were a bit disappointing in terms of quality, as it's been a hectic year, but for a first effort I was quite pleased.

I like your idea of the dripping shower though, I have tried several splashing shots but they have always been me dropping stuff into a cup or glass. Might try the shower idea myself, you go some superb splashes!

50mm lens at f.8 and ISO 800 with flash sync at 250th seems to do the trick. Trouble is focussing on a constantly moving area. I held a pencil in the water where the drips hit the surface and focussed, then once focussed slipped lens into manual so it wouldn't change. Obvious, but shutter on high speed continuous and trying to judge the right moment to fire off. I actually managed to catch a droplet about 2mm from surface of water.....like a pearl it was. Good luck. I am at the age where other exciting things in the shower are a distant memory.

Why did you pump the iso so high? Does that not grain the image more? Just curious to understand.

800 on the eos 50d is actually quite acceptable. I did try lower ISO's but couldn't seem to get a fast enough shutter speed/flash combo to freeze action/or came out too dark. Once I get another flash which I can use offf camera with wireless trigger I might have another bash at it. It was also in RAW by the way.

Here's one I took of dripping water down the wall of our lounge last week.
We had a bit of a thaw but the down pipes were frozen and the water just crept back under the slates. :headbang:

Taken with a Nikon D90 + Nikkor 18-70mm lens and on camera flash.

Fantastic shots from both of you - something I need to try at some point! The girlfriend bought me a Canon 55-250 for my Christmas so need to pop out and give that a shot in the next few days.
