A road speed limit to be cut to 50mph [UK]

The reason for the marked drop in driving standards is the fact that traffic patrols have been reduced by 90% and have been replaced by revenue generation devices which are supposed to make us all drive more safely, when in fact all the do is make people drive slower in some places and actually slam on when the see the camera but have no clue what the speed limit is.

This one really bugs me indeed it's so common that our local speed cameras often have a sub sign to advise of the speed limit, however I'm amazed that the majority still do not seem to know what to do when they see the national speed limit sign.

The A446 has a great stretch of road and guess what muppets hit the brakes to 40 in a 60 zone - so dangerous.

There is one 7 mile stretch of open dual carriageway by me that was knocked down from 70MPH to 50MPH a few years ago because of accidents on that road. The accidents still happen! The stupid thing is that a lot of the side roads off that are small country B roads, and they have the National speed limit of 60MPH on them!! :headbang:

Is it me or does there seem to be a rebellious attitude from drivers at the moment? Yesterday in he space of 10 miles i could easily have been involved in 3 potentially serious accidents due to drivers going through red lights, and overtaking on double white lines. Then i was going down a B road with no road markings keeping to the left, but a van coming towards me was slap bang in the middle of the road with a head on collision becoming highly possible until he left it to almost the last minute to pull left.
With this, and the cuts in speed limits i am starting to find driving in this country increasingly unenjoyable! :headbang:

This is because people are becoming more and more frustrated by stupid speed limits and cameras that when they do find an open bit of road, be it a side road or main road, they drive like nuters to make up time or get past that person who always drives at least 5MPH below the speed limit of any given road!! :|

The one by me that was reduced from NSL to 60mph was originally due to 'joy riders' crashing their stolen cars - how a new speed limit will stop them I don't know!

The 40mph limit imposed a few yards further down the road was due to a new junction going in to serve a new housing estate. The housing estate was never built, but the traffic lights are already in and working, and it's still a 40mph limit.

cj10jeeper, yesterday i was on the stretch between Bassetts Pole and The Belfry approaching the inclined bit where it opens up to 2 lanes just for vehicles going in that direction. I was about to perform an overtake when i saw 2 cars in the opposite direction crossing the double white line overtaking another car heading straight at me, i had to abort and pull back in! :headbang:

Im afraid these new speed enforcements seem to be having an adverse affect on road safety. :(

Yep - been there and had that done to me too.

You also know the camera I mean then - headed towards the dual lane piece, the Tuvelo (sp) just as you drop down the slope.

Yep, and also noticed that the speed limit has been cut to 50mph by the Belfry.

But I still have my 100% success rate in activating the radar 'slow' sign on the good bend

Good luck for Sunday - and remember to give your normal drive otherwise advice you will get may not be accurate. You will be amazed how many people try to drive how they *think* we want them to :o us observers can spot that though :D

Cheers, I'll do my best. Not driven the Z4 for about 2 weeks though so need to get out tomorrow for a bit of a drive to reaquaint myself with the damn clutch/CDV - a jerky drive isn't what I want to demonstrate
