A quick question to throw out to you...

My Z4M needs an Inspection 2 Service and new disks and pads in 5k. Arguably at least a grands worth of work.

My situation has changed and I'm looking at whether to keep or sell.

I could sell now and take a chunk off due to the service, which is still 6 months or more away. Also better weather etc

OR

Enjoy the summer, sell in September with new service and new disks etc.

Would you think that financially there is very little in it? ie If I sell later you may get more due to service being done etc. I know I didn't look at any cars with a looming service you see.

It depends a little if you are going to trade in or sell privately I guess.

Overall though when it comes to money, a car is always a loose loose situation. Just do what you think you will enjoy the most

A: Keep it, enjoy the summer then...... A, your situation could improve and you may be able to keep it longer
B, do the work and sell it serviced etc. I would always try to sell a motor privately and leave very little room for manouvre.

Or, B: trade it now. Trade are a bit less likely to haggle over the discs etc (because they hit you so low to begin with)

I would go for option A

Good Luck

it will be easier to sell if you can say its just had a service and new discs, but you probably won't get back the value of the service and discs

If you sell it later it will be worth less due to being older and end of summer, so even if you get more for it due to the service and brake discs you still won't realise that. I'd just run it for summer and then see what the trade bids are like, without doing the service, and then decide if it's worth it.

Is it not true to say it will be more desirable now, as summer is approaching, but obviously getting the service done will increase desirability later.

Can you not keep the Zed and get a cheap 4 door run-about for transporting the family around? :P

I can mate, but I've also got a bit of a love hate relationship with it.

With the roof off and sunshine on a blast I'm smitten.

Using it to crawl to work in a morning, getting 18mpg is more of a chore. Road tax has gone up again and it now £520 for 12 months if you pay in 6 monthly installments.

I think I'm coming to the conclusion that I need two cars. One for :driving: and one for the dull commute.
