True but that would be my fault. I can live with my own mistakes. I'll bet there are not many people would notice that bumper if I hadn't pointed it out.

Yes you are right if you hadn't pointed it out I would not have noticed it in the video. It's worth giving them a call and try and get some compensation on the basis that they pointed out all the other defects but failed to tell you about that one and the resolution of the video isn't exactly great where you could have noticed is straight away. With that video they can't claim you damaged it after delivery.

I think you have a good case as you asked them to highlight any defects and they clearly didn’t highlight any with the bumper.That vid was a waste of time.I wouldn’t have picked up the fault in question from that vid.Don’t be fobbed off.

I very much doubt they will be aware of either, as they normally don't deal with this territory. If they refuse outright, I shall offer to take it to small claims or, worse, spread the word on all social media platforms that Arnold Clark are crooks. I may even tell them I have a You-tube channel where I will disrepute them.

How much is a new rear valence? Surely it’s not £500 :?

Pondrew I had a similar experience when I bought my E85 Z4 3.0Si remotely a few months ago (similar story to you with delivery and not being able to check it in detail on delivery). The car turned up with a few things that hadn’t been declared when I asked about mods and damage: back box delete, tracking way off, broken cup holder (not hard to break), small crack in rear third brake light and misting of the headlight. To be fair to the dealership we’re reasonable when I spoke to them and explained the issues, they were willing to help me source good used replacements. I was happy with the car and not even that bothered by the issues but I wouldn’t have paid the asking price had everything been disclosed.

At the end of the day I have the car I want, yes I’ve had to put a bit more money into it to get it the way I want it but I’m happy. I hope you can get a good resolution and end up in a similar ‘happy place.’

I am. I don't want to give it back. It is actually very good for the money and I know they sold it at the money they did because it's cosmetically challenged, which is easy to sort. It's an old fashioned thing called "principle".

That’s the thing, if they think you’re trying to profit from the situation you’re just going to get their backs up.
You’re more likely to get a happy outcome if you’re reasonable with them imho, good luck with getting this resolved.

Yes I can see your point Rob (Mr Smartbear). Thing is If I buy a replacement even on eBay, it will need painting. That's got to be £400 once done. Then there's my labour for fitting; I charge £48 an hour.

I had a similar situation a few years ago with an Amazon delivery. Muppet of a delivery driver reversed over my (beautiful) grass to turn around when he could have easily reversed out on the driveway. He churned up the grass and damaged my brick boundary. I put in a claim to Jeff; they argued it. When I told them about the labour involved in the repair, they paid it out in full.

I would agree with that.

Be reasonable with them and have a whine on at them but don't threaten them with laws which don't exist, they will smell a rat and turn the table on you. If the situation was the other way around how would you react to such threats?

You also have to ask yourself the question that if you had seen the damage at the time, would you still have bought the car or would you have walked away from the deal?

In my experience, If you consider that the car is not exactly as described by the sales department, you address your grievances with the Dealer Principal. Whatever you do, dont make threats that you can't or won't follow through with.

From memory i don’t think the rear valence part is painted, it’s a grey coloured plastic piece that’s separate to the bumper itself

Remember if they crack its on the inside of the wheel and difficult to check if the car is on the ground.

I've checked. Had all four wheels off to address the rusty brake calipers and discs. The (runflat) tyres are almost new and have no damage, nails or anything. Every cloud......
