A parting gift from my Zed

As you might have seen, my zed (3.0si) has been up for sale as we are moving abroad next month. I wanted to make a quick and clean sale, and the car was immaculate inside and out. In the (almost) a year I've owned it the car was rock solid, so I wasn't worried about finding a buyer at a modest price. Given that the MOT was expiring the following month I offered to MOT the car before sale so it came with a full 12 months.

Last weekend I found a buyer who put a deposit down. I MOT'd the car the next day, and then came the first parting gift - a cracked rear coil spring. I had dodged this bullet, but here it was coming to catch up with me. So I decided to keep the sale on track, and as a nice gesture, I'd do both coil springs at the same time. The MOT garage couldn't do the springs in time, so I took it to my normal servicing garage.

On the way to the garage to get the coil springs done, I'm stopping at some lights about to pull in to the place. I look down, engine temp is about half way between mid and red zone. There's absolutely no way I was going to sell a car I thought had a cooling issue. The garage ran for codes and here came my second parting gift... water pump.

So 4 days later and >£1000 lighter, my zed has a clean MOT and is off to the new owner! I only wish I got chance to enjoy it with these two common problems fixed.

Such a shame this love story had such a bitter end!

I guess you had to get it done very quickly so didn't have a lot of options but yeh - pump is a £250 easy DIY and rear springs are a proper piece of piss to change. Around £400 in parts total so sounds like you got raped a bit on the labour.

Yeah, I didn't have the time or tools to get it done. Can only hope my next motor comes as well looked after as this one is leaving me!

Sadly in my experience this is unlikely to be true but I wish you all the best of luck with your new car.

That’s unlucky for you but lucky for the new owner, as mentioned above it sounds like they’ve had your pants down with the bill-I’d find another Indy that doesn’t charge like a wounded rhinoceros :o

You was robbed.
New owner dodged the bullets. :D
Zeds in fine health and off to a new home.

What I get from this is you seem a really genuine stand up guy. Good on you for getting it all sorted for the next owner

Good luck on your move abroad, where you going?

That car didn't want to go to a new home and dug it's heels in, well done for getting it sorted...didn't really have a choice with the pump though. :|
