A night of two firsts...

Tonight we went out to a very lovely boutique restaurant in Ludlow called Mortimers. Excellent taster menu worthy of a Mitchellin recommendation. We managed to get a parking spot just outside the restaurant.

When we came out it was the first time since selling the Coupe that I missed it, in that idylic setting the Coupe would have looked stunning to walk out to. I felt sad.

I jumped into the Roadster, put the roof down and set of, the first time I've done late night driving with the roof down and my god, how much fun is that!!!

The Coupe may have looked good for a moment but the 40min drive on B roads with the roof down and a pitch black star lit night was something else and I soon forgot about the looks of the Coupe...t'was one of the best drives I've ever had!!
 
I have to say I am slightly envious of your evening!!

Cannot agree more the Coupes look sublime, however driving a roadster with the roof down of an evening is always a great experience!
 
As recently new member to Zlife, I couldn't agree more. Love driving with the top down, it could only be made better with the wind in the my hair (if I had any that is).
 
I also love night driving with the roof down, people look at you as if your sense went with the wind but it is a great experience :D :thumbsup:

That's why roadsters rule😎
Coupri drivers can never experience this feeling.
I get that penned in (coupee) experience, when ever I drive in my Fiesta or van :rofl: :rofl:
 
These would be my thoughts. Coupe for looks, but as a 2nd car the Z4 has to be convertible.

As a daily id take the coupe though...in fact scrap that as I would never have a Z4 as a daily, far too uncomfortable 😬

Yep, get that heater cranked up with the heated seats all nice and toasty and they think you are bonkers :rofl:

Been the proud owner of a 35is now for 7 years and admit, never driving in the dark with the roof down. Your post will change that very soon. :thumbsup:

Hi Dan. I recently 'discovered' Ludlow myself back in June and it's definitely my new favourite place. I spent a couple of nights there driving and exploring the area in my Z4...I was actually on the trail of Robert Plant/Led Zeppelin but that's another story ! :D Anyway, next time you're there I can recommend taking a picnic and a beer up to Whitcliffe Common, find yourself a fabulous memorial bench to sit on and then just soak in what has to be one of the finest views in the country. Sir John Betjeman described Ludlow as "probably the loveliest town in England" and I'm not going to argue with that :wub: 20210605_152131.jpg20210605_152113.jpg
Also, on the subject of driving roof down in the dark, one Sunday evening a couple of years ago I drove some 200 miles from Berwick Upon Tweed back to Chorley, Lancashire where I live mainly along the A1 and A59. When I left B-U-T it was dusk and the roads were very quiet all the way. Almost all the traffic lights were green, the roundabouts were clear etc and it all just flowed beautifully. Roof down, heaters on...it was just sublime all the way. The stars and moon came out, a couple of sharp showers spiced things up and the miles just flew by....a night I will never forget :thumbsup:
 
All I need now is one of those warm evenings you all speak of. On hols in Majorca next week (Without my beloved but with the wife) hopefully there will be the opportunity sometime in October.

Ludlow was lovely, it used to be quite the mecca for top class restaurants. I day tripped over to Elan and Brecon but found loads of good roads around that area. Forgot to make a note of the best ones, but it was a day jammed packed with brilliant driving roads. Thanks for the tip Si, we will definitely be back!
