a nice day out spoiled by a jobsworth !

If it’s a private car park I never pay the invoice (it’s not a fine).
We’ve had 3 of these scam tickets over the last couple of years.
1. Daughter with wheel over the white line
2. Wife 5 mins over in airport drop off carpark
3. Daughter (again) late returning.

Typically you get 12 -14 threatening letters and we did have a visit from a debt collector with the first one but he was just doing his job and when I politely told him that we would not pay him and to go away he did.

I don't get it!

Its the wrong registration number

therefore its not your vehicle that will be chased through the system.

Don't pay the fine as it does not apply to you and they have no way of back tracking that its you.

It it goes further, there is a conflict on the ticket that makes it invalid.

if you feel bad about it, wait for a while to see what happens and when nothing happens give the money to a worthwhile cause if it eases your conscience.
 
Personally i would do nothing... As stated the wrong plate is recorded... And if they come after and find you...say you never had a ticket on the car (some scally took it!)

i had one whe they didnt write in the amount for the fine. challenge it you will not have to pay as the ticket is invalid.
 
I always fight tickets... But in London they're £140, or £70 if paid quickly but they're usually issued incorrectly.

I have to say if you parked wrongly, and the cost is only £25 - I'd of paid by now and forgotten about it!

If it's not a local council ticket (therefore a private car park) - never pay! So many scammers demanding money and you're legally obliged to pay nothing but they'll try to scare you into it...
 
I don't think the OP has committed a crime if there was no bay next to him.

Parking over 2 spaces is different in a pay and display, but there was no space next to him, so as he says, jobs worth.

Yes, the conditions say about parking within the bay, but who has he inconvenienced by this and has the car park lost revenue..... Nobody and no!

I can't comment on the incorrect reg, I'd say ignore it but you said the tax disc info was right?

I'm currently on the train at Waterloo going back from a weekend in the big smoke and we parked well over the edge of the bay, into a non Bay Area, specifically to avoid the car park dings.

Private parking company so if there's. ticket they can go spin!

This is really what has annoyed me - I caused no obstruction and paid for a ticket to park . Not really happy to just ignore it so I will challenge the PCN and point out these things and that the VRM quoted on the Notice is not mine and is therefore invalid in itself.

Worth a punt - if they still want to pursue it I'll ask on what legal authority they can do this when the Notice relates to another vehicle ( I checked on the dvla website and the number has been allocated to a car on the IOW )
 
people are missing the point about the wrong reg written down.

i'm 99.9% sure the warden will have taken photo's, of which the reg number will be clearly shown. all they'll do is check the pics and see they've written it down wrong, then hunt you down.

but, it's your money and not mine.

A quick google and already a handful of posts stating incorrect reg = invalid PCN. Here is an extract from pistonheads:

As a former parking warden, any tickets with the incorrect VRM were invalid. It's up to the issuing authority to ensure that the ticket has the correct details on. Look on it as a lucky escape and be more careful in future.

I've often wondered if you did that, would you get a ticket and would it be contest-able. On the face of it you've paid for two bays. I bet there's a bylaw though
 
The notice usually says to park within the lines, so they'd get you on that I suppose.
 
Being pedantic, if you'd paid for two bays and were within the outer boundary lines of the two spaces...

Pointless conversation really :)
 
Just got back from eight days in the Algarve every day blue skies and 28C - and to end a perfect week letter from Council waiting for me stating yes the PEO got the VRM wrong and "on this occasion " the penalty charge is cancelled !!!!
