Compact version

I've never understood the point of the lift in the first link. Why not make it so you can take the wheels off? Like you can with compact one.

If I'm not being stupid (strong possibility) you'd still need a jack to take the wheels off using drive on ramp.

Dig a pit whilst you're at it :)

2nd one is neat for home garage use.

Spearman - modern drive on lifts usually have a hydraulic jack that slides back and forth on rails. You position that at either end of the car and just lift those wheels off. Drive on ramps are used by garages as they are quick, easy and no errors of positioning lift arms.

MOT stations also needy keep the wheels on the ground and suspension loaded for many partsnofmthentest.

the first drive on lift also usually comes with jacks in the middle part

something like this:

I had a car lift in the garage for a couple of years. Came in very handy when restoring my MGB. Once finished with though it was a pain, always in the way. So I sold it for more or less what I paid for it. Jacks and ramps for me now. But if I do another full resto then I'll get another lift without hesitation.
