A NEW headlight washer problem

I'm hoping to confirm the temporary fix tonight.

There's a 5 AMP fuse sat in the terminal box in the top right of the engine bay. I've bought an Autoleads Add-a-fuse to piggy back onto it which should provide my live feed to the relay. Then that'll be it!

Will proudly video my results  (or video my face of abject failure).

FYI - the wiring harness to do this job properly is still available from Germany. Your dealer can order it on 61120300700. It's currently £43 ex VAT.

So you just need to check the wiring connectors at X11002 and X11003 and confirm the pins are present. I assume X11003 will be but X11002 probably won't.

The connectors/spades should be available individually from BMW - RS components also stock Tyco stuff but are a lot harder to match up part numbers, though are cheaper.

Hi Steve & rally-chris

Just thought, any idea how i would obtain the power draw the pump requires on its own in order to select a relevant fuse? The OEM harness would power it via power distributor A41 which has a 30A fuse but is powering multiple items.

Ultimately the only thing the fuse is there to protect is the wiring so you can pretty much base it on that alone. All but the crappiest of thin bell wire will not set on fire at 10A so I would say you would be safe with a 10A fuse. I think the pump itself will be under 5A running current though so you could probably run a 5A fuse..

I'd run the feed from the fuse box, there should be ample spare live/acc/ign you can pop a spade in and then an inline fuse.

What I’ve done is perfectly reversible so will be going down that route after the MOT in the morning.

In the meantime....

It won’t embed.....

Ps. Yes, it’ll drain the tank in about 15 seconds! But perfect for an MOT once a year 👍🏼

I've just noticed that Sep 06+ cars have a washer fluid level sensor... for some reason I want to retrofit it

Never knew that! I’ll look it up as that does sound handy.

Looks like it will need coding as the signal is to earth and the switch breaks to trigger... so maybe a bit more involved.
