and due having to had a sloshing sound from under the bonnet every time it rains I thought it was time to see what was going on.

1st job - remove cowl & wipers - pretty straightfoward actually with the right tools, rubber mallet, prying tool & WD 40 were invaluable

It was so bad at first I thought it was a sponge!
Put it back together and will give it a full clean later, the only thing I couldn't do which is annoying is put the new clips back in properly, can't find a screwdriver head that will fit

Good job you've done there. Did mine a few years ago but nowhere near as bad as that. Did the girlfriend's touran and it was well bunged up, even behind the wheel arches I could have grown potatoes! !

Thanks for sharing that!

Just a small warning. An amateur can also very easily break half the white plastic clips which connect that cowl to the bottom of the windscreen. Be careful!
Also, removing the plastic screws which connect the cowl to the firewall get threaded very easily. A bit of care in that stage goes a long way!

I was careful removing everything, but my screws were threaded already and I had gone to the trouble of getting some new replacements already. But for some reason I can't screw them back in, they just turn and turn and they don't go anywhere :(

When I did mine I was advised that the plastic screws and clips can break as they get brittle with age. I bought some spare clips and rivet screws off fleabay for a few quid. Only damaged one rivet screw in the process, so guess I was lucky.

Plastic household roof gutter mesh is easily cut to fit inside the front drains and helps me to keep mine from blocking up like that.

Never thought I would see the day Mark ....

Next the satnav retrofit?

True - and knowing his luck, he will have just been arrested for littering as well

Have I been a numpty with the rivet screws? Are they not screwing in because they should be pushed in :?

If they are the same as hold in the wheel arch liners then they just push in.

Need tickets my drains as getting as sloshing noise too. Will add it to the list
