A nasty lesson - how to break your rear glass

Want to borrow a hardtop so you can use the car until you source a roof? Have sent an emaIl.

Marcus, I be dropped you a note to thank you for that amazing and generous offer.

It's frikkin delightful to know people still offer big acts of unrequested kindness. I'll be getting emotional soon!

Thanks but I'll have to turn it down, the old girl is now in the care of my indy and I've got the keys to a corsa....

Hopefully it'll all be sorted and she'll have a lovely new roof by my return.

I'm with you Andy

N'awwww. :ilz4f:

I'm a bit more of a lurker than a poster and despite wanting to, have never made it to a meet but am pretty touched by that.

Have you thought about a windscreen claim on your insurance?

Yeah, had a look into it and as it is integrated into the hood it isn't covered under the windscreen replacement element with my insurers (elephant) id have to do a full claim. Once all the excesses are added and the effect of the claim on renewals, it doesn't make sense really.

However there's an interesting post from drnick on here where he found that direct line will replace the entire hood under a glass claim.

So I'm thinking after this experience that if you can get a policy where full hood replacement is included under glass replacement and there isn't too much difference in the premium then that is the way to go.

So does that mean if someone slashes your roof you could smash the rear screen and get it replaced without hitting your excess? :?

i suppose that is possible.....

Although if at all possible i think i'd just go the repair route. someone on here has had a repair done and there is an image. the results looked pretty good IIRC

It occurred to me that I've heard other stories of spontaneous glass breakage, usually pertaining to architectural glass, but tempered glass is tempered glass. A quick search brought up dozens of articles like this one:

Bottom line is that it's a manufacturing defect that is largely but not entirely controllable.

Well SHE IS BACK :driving: :driving: :happyclap: :happyclap:

After driving a gutless wonder for a week it is delightful to be back in the old girl.

This is quite simply a gratuitous shot of a brand new roof:

I'm now some pounds lighter (1500 to be precise!) :(

I think it must have been catching on something as the action is very smooooooooth. so if your roof isnt running smoothly - get it checked before you get a silly bill.

whats that on the boot?

They are the rails for the boot mounted storage system.

They were on it when i got her but i had them colour matched as standard is grey.

I've got the rack that fits onto them. you can also get a hard case and a snowboard holder as well i think. never actually used them.

never seen them on another although there was someone on here who mentioned they had them.

have you fixed the tray, so the new roof doesn't suffer the same fate?
That £1500 could turn into £3000......
