A month of repairs.

Car is in the garage up on the lift for some work.
Thoughts being the wheels could do with a freshen up, ditch the run-flats (they really are terrible) and during the last MOT I received an advisory on a brake pipe - so whilst the wheels are away - replace all the pipes.
Also planning to replace the brake flex hoses and the clutch delay valve at the same time.
On removing the rear wheels - I discovered both rear springs were snapped!!!!
The car is an 04 2.2 with 40k miles.
I'll post some photos as and when and update on the progress or lack of.
Might need some encouragement or praise to get my arse in gear!!!
Cheers

once you start improvements, its hard to stop........... :driving:

Makes ownership so much nicer though!

Getting there now, brakes are working and cdv has been ditched.
It's taking longer than I would have hoped due to being very busy work wise.
Surprised to see both springs snapped in exactly the same place with the same type of break.

Good move ditching the run flats Sorry to hear about the springs.

Good luck with the repairs!

Aren't the run flats a major contributor to the snapped springs though ... I don't hear of many M models having broken springs, and they have normal tyres.

Asked BMW about the springs - quoted me approx £100 each for supply only - they could get them same afternoon.
Afterwards I paid my local trade only motor factor a visit (half a mile from BMW garage) and was surprised to find them on the shelf. Standard Z-4 springs but on the box it's stamped 'Made in Sweden'. Springs were £47 each.
Mentioned BMW didn't have them in stock so I'll take them - only to get told 'we sell bucket loads to the said garage!'
I'll get the clutch blead this week but it was another late shift today so I'm knacked.

Hi Dalmahoy,

Did you notice any changes in performance/ride/sounds to indicate the springs had gone, or was it a complete surprise when you removed the wheels?

I need to get on the floor and take a look at mine. I know the distance between the top of my the rear tyre (18" 108's + 35mm tyres) and the wheel arch appears lower than most z4 roadsters. I think this may be an inidcation my rear spring have gone.

But im not noticing any difference in performance or ride, drives like normal. :driving: , unless i've just got used to it.

I had a snapped spring on my last Z4 and really didn't notice it as it was broken when i collected it from our company car people and I had not been driving it hard - though the car felt loads better with a new one fitted. Best option, whip the wheels off and have a look. And let me know if you need new springs - I have some that don't fit my car as it's an Si with sports suspension. If you don't have sports suspension they'll be perfect I believe. Came off Nosa's 2.5 car, only 1,500 miles on them and I'll just take what I paid (£25) plus postage. Or you can meet me at Thurrock services tomorrow at about 2pm and I will hand them to you :P

(which would be best if you need them fast as I am off to Scotland Friday AM)

Nice one bing! Although, I'm not about for a while. Manic at work all week and then off on a stag next weekend. Don't think I'll be leaving the house that weekend.

The Zed's going to have to wait. Might try and take the wheel off tomorrow eve though, and then I'll be in touch!

I work 15mins walk away, so not the end of the world if the Zed's out of action for a while.
