After a 2 month hiatus in the garage and a fair bit of time spent cleaning lights and adding bulbs etc., it was time for a good blast.
With new tires fitted at the end of the week, I decided to give the new rubber a run for its money and enjoy some mild mid-winter weather, so planned a drive out to see my Mum in Akaroa. Spoilt for choice around Christchurch for long straights and tight roads, and with the Port Hills and Banks Peninsula, there is no lack of good driving. I decided to take the long road out, with tons of twisty turny stuff from home to Motukarara, but with enough good straights to keep you smiling.
Great views for the day and with no wind is was pretty spectacular - view looking down Lyttelton Harbour towards Charteris Bay.
Drive from there to Akaroa is fantastic, long straights, sweepers, 2nd gear hairpins and great cambered roads to enjoy as well as a super hill climb and decent into the harbour. Hit the summit road, (where the very small white dot is by the yellow road, just after Little River) and the traffic on the main road was a bit heavy so took to longer route to avoid it.
Suffice to day, it did not take me 2 hours to cover the 111km, and after a few jobs for Mum had a fresh fish and chip lunch with this view.
I then headed home via the more direct route, and as before, the summit road was needed to avoid the traffic, but it all just makes for a broader smile
. Had a super time with a lad in a WRX Impreza on the way back, but he seemed to loose interest, seemingly not as 'enthusiastic' through the corners as me.
New tires and current set up will be a separate thread as it was all a bit hairy at speed, but after two months, it was simply fantastic to be back behind the wheel, smelling hot brakes, hard pressed rubber and hearing the glorious sound of the simply superb N52.
What a pleasure these cars are.
