A little spruce up for the M

flimper

Just spent nearly 3 hours cleaning & polishing, not a long time for some, but probably double the length I've ever gone to before. Definitely my maximum :oldman: This is the best I think I can get the old girl looking, quite happy with it all in all, except for the crap pics (I did take the time to crop the pics though :poke: )

My weapons of choice:

Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo
Autoglym Super Resin Polish
Meguiars Gold Class Endurance Tire Gel
Meguiars Quik Detailer

Did you polish that by hand?
Orange peel paint alive and well - it's such a shame they don't take the time to make it great paint from the outset - but I know this has been a problem for donkey's years now and across many manufacturers. Your third picture looks ace.

I'm experiencing massive amounts of de ja vu! Didn't you clean/do this post about a year ago?
Think I need to lay off the coffee.

EDIT: This was the post; I'm not going mad, the coffee can remain and I officially have a great memory. Although it's two years plus between cleans on that gorgeous Interlagos Flimper :!:

top work Flimp!

Love the new signature also!

I'm planning a detailing day (with Ninarvana) this Saturday and will be taking maybe 5-7 hours (can't wait :D )

Running order will be (all by hand):

Dodo Juice BTBM shampoo
Clay
Poorboys Super Swirl Remover
Autoglym SRP
Poorboys Black Hole
Chemical Guys Black Light
Gtechniq T1 (for tyres and trim)

Maybe a bit of Chemical Guys orange degreaser for wheel arches and engine bay.

Hoping she'll be gleaming afterwards. A few swirls have appeared which Autoglym SRP doesn't seem to touch, so hoping the Poorboys SSR will make a bit more progress. (I need to get access to electricity and a DA Polisher).

Get yourself a wax to stick on the old girl though!

Good memory, although that one was paid for and done by Pav, this one was all my own work :D

Oh, and Inkey, would love to see your Breadvan in the flesh sometime, I'm a big fan

I had a sample of the Megs Carnuba wax and did the bonnet with it, does that count? (Very impressed with it and will more than likely buy some)

Look forward to seeing a write up and pics of your and Nina's efforts!

If you can do that amount of work in that amount of time then I'm doing something seriously wrong. Just one car or both? I could do wheels, wash car and dry in about 2hrs. The rest I do by machine and it would take considerably longer! Where am I going wrong?!
You may as well do the interior in the 30 mins extra that takes.
I suppose it could be the taping up, swapping pads etc that adds the time but I'm still surprised. Clay ing took by far the longest time - with wiping (using spray wax) it took me 3hrs alone - although the results were awesome

Remember next time to suck in the stomach when taking the picture

Good work though - it is quite a few years ago that I did a car by hand rather than with the machine polishers, so I bet it was rather hot doing it :)

so ... your new sig - 'No Nav cause it is rubbish' - are you referring to your car / car spec being rubbish here? :P

I find that using a lubricating shampoo (I use Dodo Juice Born to be Mild, with some Optimum No Rinse), works perfectly well for a clay lubricant and saves a lot of time (and money) over using a lubricating spray.

For me, to wash, dry and do the wheels I normally set aside 90 minutes....which is normally enough to give the exhaust, sills and engine bay and quick going over also, but not the interior.

To be fair though everybody works at their own speed and the condition of the car / techniques used will also affect time. I doubt you're doing anything wrong, if your car looks good then I wouldn't worry

My car is the best on here!

And I was sucking in my stomach for the picture :(

To be honest I do go a bit mad when I'm doing it, the neighbours think I'm on something! Then the energy runs out and I can't move for the rest of the day :(

She's an acquired taste. You're not far from me so I'm sure we'll meet one of these days during a meet

The number one annoyance of all detailing... making it instantly a waste of time as soon as you drive it once.

Did look nice tho flimper :)

Are your headlamps just dusty, or do they need polishing?

I've just bought the Meguiars MF polishing pads and compound. Just need the time to start mine now.

Nice one Flimper. Very rewarding on a dark coloured car. The dark colours always look best when clean
