Some of my old high school buddies have landed a contract working on the new La Ferrari in Maranello, so I figure it would be rude not to go and visit them.
And lets face it, why fly, when you can drive?!
Kirstie and I are planning this little trip in May over 7 - 10 days. Final details are to be ironed out, but planning to get the ferry from Dover and drive to Le Mans for a look at the track and museum. After that its down to Lyon and on into the French Riviera, stopping for a night in St Tropez and another in Cannes to catch up with some old business contacts and enjoy some good food and a few glam nights out. Then through the Italian Riviera with a stop in Genoa for some sun and sand. After this its on to Maranello to see the boys. From Maranello we plan to leave the car behind and catch the train to Florence and Rome to explore some italian cuisine and take in the ancient and renaisance architecture. I have driven in Italy before and Northern Italy is bad enough. I am quite simply not man enough to try driving in Rome and I am not afraid to say it - the Italians are insane drivers! Once we are back in Maranello and have collected the car again, we are going to head for Milan for some shopping, then through Lake Como (er...not literally) and on into Switzerland via the legendary Stelvio Pass. Whilst the Stelvio is an experience, it is the roads that come after that I love, so once down the other side of the pass we will head onto the incredible driving roads that take you over the Swiss National Park and down into Davos for some chill out time. I last visited Davos in 2012 for the Screwball Rally and it remains the most beautiful place I have ever been too, so really excited to go back. From Davos it is on to the Disney castle at Schwangau, then the Nurburgring for some track time as a final stop before heading back across the channel and home. At least this way if I wrap the car up on track we are almost home and it won't ruin the trip!
Here is the route, subject to a few revisions. Planning to mix it up by bringing a tent, so we can do some nights in high class hotels and others just camping out if we find anywhere we like along the way.
May cannot come soon enough...
Naturally I will be taking plenty of shots of the Zed on location!
