Hi,

Ok, I have a confession to make....this will surely get me excluded from this forum, due to lack of cool.

I'm off to Le Mans in July and have kitted my car out in the Euro stuff and thought I would get a fire extinguisher, which although not required, is desirable.

Anyway, i bought a powder one...popped it behind and under my seat for safe keeping.

A few days later...I was messing with my car and pressed the electric seat button....then heard some hissing...oh sh*t...

After about a minute of wrestling with a punctured extinguisher and a seat that slowly gave me access to it, it wasn't a pretty sight.

2 hours later, clean car again...and 10 minutes later, i looked less like a ghost, after a long shower :)

A word to the wise, be careful what you put under your seat :P

Steve

Unfortunately no pics :( I was too busy panicking, didn't know if there were nasty chemicals that would affect paintwork or interior.

Hosepipe out straight away!

All good though, although my dustbin looks like a winterwonderland, or a crackheads paradise!

Unlucky, I used to work with Fire extinguisher powder, Extremly abrasive stuff.
And tastes disgusting.

were you looking for that lost AUX securing nut

Let's not go there, sigh :P Should have yours in post later this week mate :P

Standard powder fire extinguishers contain sodium bicarbonate (or baking powder) forced out by stored pressure gas (nitrogen in most cases).

The only thing we get warned about when attending fires with them is to not breathe the stuff in as it'll give you the runs, and can also weaken the stitching on your overalls.

There are other dry chemical extinguishers (potassium bicarbonate, potassium chloride, ammonium phosphate) but these tend to be used in specific industries and not suitable for basic home/car use by the untrained as they can cause chemical burns.

  im sorry but that has made me smile. :D :D its usually me that kind of stuff happens to!

the other week i smashed my windscreen with my head when i was pulling my gearknob off!

We need to compile all these type of threads together for more

I can think of:
- Rudd_2002's gearknob incident
- Petach's air vent removal thread
- Woots' T-cutting incident
- and now this one

Keep up the good work folks . I'm not admitting to anything myself...
