A like button

I am quite new to this forum and love looking what everybody is discussing.... however sometimes I don't want to reply to the blogs but simply want to do a like... a thumbs up or whatever....For instance if someone posts a joke or a funny comment would be great to press a like button...You would get to see how many likes there are on any 1 post...... This forum is really great and I'm not knocking it in any way.... its just a suggestion.... I should imagine its really tricky to change the format of the forum in that respect....
PS.... hope I've posted this in the right place.....

I'd rather see people contribute to a thread than to a facebook style 'like' tally, so it's a polite :thumbsdown: from me,

Over the years I've seen some people prefer to read the forum rather than write it. I think they would enjoy being able to comment in a subtle way without having to add content or a comment. Some people are not real comfortable posting.
I don't see a like button as trying to be like facebook - I see it as a way to let people say "cool, or nice! or thank you " discretely without having to publish words in a way they may not be comfortable with.

I actually run a forum that’s a similar size to this one. We’ve had likes almost from the start.

Having likes definitely reduces the number of posts as it’s easier to click like than type a reply. If the reply is just going to be a ‘thanks’ then there’s no more value in it though compared to a like so there’s pros and cons.
 
I know that we all have different expectations when we come on here. I love the fact that people write in real sentences and don't use text speak for example.

The structure of this site is distinctive and there is clear water between how posts are made on here and say facebook. I don't do F-book but I'm told that there is a Z4 group on there and good luck to them. I'm sure its an age thing but if somethings worth saying its worth taking the time to say it (as they would say in Entish).

I'm not bothered about being thanked or liked if its the lowest common one click denominator - I share stuff and if it helps someone that's grat but I would have posted it anyway. If I've posted something that you agree with or offends you then join the conversation - like in the pub rather than just sticking your thumb in the air and counting popularity. There said it; and yes its most probably an age and time thing. For all of you lost for words or in a rush :thumbsup:
 
I kind of agree with Scootr...I think the large majority of people on here haven't grown up with social media so just don't get the 'like' concept, hence the comments from Mr Bear...

I think there was a poll a while back to work out the average age of Zed owners and I'm pretty sure the 50+ category was the highest group. **edit** just looked and this comment is incorrect. Poll said late 20s early 30s was the most popular group.

Personally I do hope the forum gets a modernised face-lift at some point. I've always found it strange you don't access the forum through an app for a starters. That said, the content and knowledge is top draw and I suppose that's the most important thing!
 
Or 20s / 30s were most likely to post their age - since they probably include it in profiles on other sites. I suggest oldies are less likely to post their lives on line which is kinda what I was saying before.

I’ve been on Facebook for over 10 years, I’ll be joining one of those self help groups i mentioned shortly :P

I've been around a few forums. Each one does have it's own collective personality. I get it if you don't want to be perceived as just another modern forum. If the sentiment (he) expressed is the community ideal then go with it. I will say I find a lot more worthwhile content here than any of the other Z forums on the net. So you are doing something right.



And thanks for putting up with me - I'm enjoying the change.
 
It is after all just a "like" button......you don't have to use it....you can still post a comment if you wish …
I see people write jokes and post funny pics but I don't want to post..." ha ha that was funny" Or :D …would prefer to show my appreciation by simply pressing the like button..... "simples"....
