A lesson on logbook exchange during sale process.

Tricky one :cry:
How many of you state the time on the logbook on the day/date of sale ? I never have but will start from now on .
Sold the Zc last week & buyer collected around 6-30PM .
Just received notice of prosecution for doing 37MPH in a 30 road at 6-37 pm just 5 mins from my house :o Oh dear .
Wasn't even the buyer has he had brought a friend to drive the car back :roll:
 
Request photographic evidence? If the camera was forward facing,then you may be able to prove it wasn't you.
 
I wasn't planning on needing proof as the car hadn't left my drive since the buyer paid for the car 3 days previously .
 
Ouch, that sucks! Have you spoke to the guy who brought it to admit responsibility? The notice only comes to you as the registered keeper but you still have to say who was driving. I would discuss it with the new owner as first port of call as if he's even a half decent guy he should admit responsibility, obviously got carried away with the 'new car buzz'!

On the other point, I always do a separate printed receipt on the sale of a car including price, time and date sold and name of the buyer and signed by both parties. The logbook isn't proof of ownership anyway so you should always do this to cover yourself as either a buyer or seller.
 
dont worry about it ,the offence is committed by the driver not the registered keeper, they will ask who was driving,if it wasnt you, then nothing to fear, explain the situation ,the new owner will have to give the name of the driver, if they wont fess up then dont accept a fixed penalty, have your day in court and tell the truth. right is right and wrong is wrong there is no way i would take the rap if it wasnt me, also the guy that was driving would be a s**t of the highest calibre if he let you cop the points. :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown:
 
I dont for one minute expect any issue with the new owner & his friend ( not anymore :P )
They were fine fellas & ive dropped an email to the guy . Shame he will be on holiday right now . I just wonder if he also got a ticket as he drove off leading the way :cry:
 
Logbook... I always write out a Bill of Sale with this on specifically for this reason.

Here's the format I use

BILL OF SALE (Vendor copy)

I, Mr.################# of @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ have today sold the following vehicle:

AUDI xx
Model xx
Colour xx
Registration xx
Purchase price xx
Vehicle mileage xx,
Date of sale xx
Time of sale xx
Purchaser Mr. zzz
Purchaser address

I warrant that I own and have full legal title to sell the aforementioned vehicle; that there is no hire purchase or loan outstanding against it and otherwise sell it on the basis of ‘Sold as seen’ without any further representations or warranties.
