Had an interesting chat with a traffic officer today at work.

Pulled into the yard in the Zed and parked it. Traffic officer ambled over taking an interest in it .... very nice ... sounds good ... blah blah. Anyway - then he asks if I've declared the exhaust. Ofcourse I have I replied. Good job he tells me.

Apparently traffic officers have been briefed that where there is an obvious change to standard appearance they are to make actual contact with the insurers to establish if the modification has been declared. If not - to deal with the matter as a "no insurance" offence.

Currently no insurance is a minimum 6 point ticket and £200 fine to be paid within 28 days.

The not so bad news is that my company - Aviva - have a drop down list and when added to it the exhaust made no difference to the premium - nor did the change of alloys. The ITG bumped it up a bit but as it's "performance enhancing" I'm not that fussed.

I know that you guys know this - but I'm just flagging it.

So.... heads up ....

Sounds like a bit of scaremongering to me as not declaring modifications does not necessarily make your insurance void/invalid!

Mine's declared by the way :thumbsup:
 
most of the plod round here wouldnt know a modified exhaust if it jumped up and bit them on the ass , ...... there is this One though, in an unmarked green bmw estate, who's a right jobsworth . :thumbsdown: bet he's thumbing through the demon tweeks catalogue now !!
 
this is not true, they cant just run MID checks on your reg and call and insurer without them having actual cause to do so! for example actually breaking the law, they cant just go of a hunch! also each MID check is not free so i dont think they would be running round doing checks on reg plates to see if the alloys have been declared!

Still human though, so not infallible, and who's to say his colleague is not doing a wind-up :P

On the other hand, if I take everything a service police officer says as the truth, then I won't get a ticket if I keep to no more than 85mph on the motorway/dual carriageway NSL and 75mph on a single carriageway NSL.

Would that hold up in court if I appealed a future NIP :?
